Rolex 112 Cyclops Crystal
Maybe this is the wrong spot to post this but I need a 112 cyclops crystal for a vintage 7966 Tudor but am skeptical about buying some that are listed as NOS. It looks as if they come in unsealed old envelopes and the sellers charge a pretty penny for them. Who is to say that the only thing that is NOS is the envelope and an aftermarket crystal wasnt slipped in? Any places I can go where I know im getting a real deal NOS without breaking the bank?

That is the problem with all the old "NOS" Crystals,Most of the Time they are aftermarket.

So what brands are the nearest to the original, dimension and quality wise?

Hello:
Sorry to revive an old thread but for some reason I cannot initiate a new one (maybe because I'm a new member?) To the pont: I also have a vintage 7966/0 which is in need of a new crystal and like you, I'm weary of NOS offers in the web where you most probably get an excellent quality but overpriced (by x5) German made Sternkreuz crystal. Did you ever manage to get a replacement crystal and where? Do you (or any board members) know if 'this' be the right replacement? I ask because I have seen others that are labelled "cyclops 112" but seem to have a different diameter, like the PA459-47H US made Germanow-Simon crystal. (295 mm vs. 293.6 mm) Any input will be greatly appreciated. JHM |

I have actually used both. The PA459-47H I used in this 1961 7966 without issue.
And the German XS 295.464 I used on the 1959 7966 without issue, so I think you are good to go on both.

BTW, great looking '61 you have. My own 7966/0 is here: https://www.rolexforums.com/showpost...6&postcount=64 Has serial number 58163XX. According to the data I have found both here at TRF and while searching the web for published samples with serial no./date combinations, it seems to have been manufactured in 1966 or 1967 but I have been unable to narrow down the date span any further. Cheers, JHM |
