Fantastic news!

The TAG partnership might have been right 20+ years ago, but F1 is so much more technical these days and with a regular production line of road going cars Richard Mille makes really good sense. The naysayers will bleat about the team's poor performance last year, but if you know Ron Dennis and Honda that's not going to last long.

Is it just me or does the name Honda not really go with Mclaren?!

Honda and McLaren were partners from 1988 - 1992 and were one of the most successful racing partnerships in the history of F1. McLaren Honda won 4 F1 Manufacturer Championships and 4 F1 Drivers Championships with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. Both the chassis and the engines were technically highly sophisticated. Honda really is an incredible and highly respected engineering company.

If that doesn't "go" then I have no idea how you define success. Most F1 teams and F1 drivers have never come close to that level of success, and likely never will. You're looking at the level of Michael Phelps' achievement and some.

ITS TIME!

Good for RM. Dont know how much it will help there sales as anyone who can afford one and wants something other than the usual suspects (Rolex, PP, AP) pretty much knows that option.

Pure marketing and brand awareness/building (just like Rolex does--everyone knows it, but they are a marketing company deep down). Not everyone knows RM and in the F1 world, that consumer is an ideal market.

Great move and it's a 10 year contract.

Good move. I can't help but wonder if it is a piece of the puzzle being put in place in preparation for selling the company. (Pardon the alliteration) I hope not but time will tell.

On a side note...I think more highly of Honda than Mclaren

Ah, love people that drink the rumor cool aid...I've heard this for the past four years. It's a great wives tale that just doesn't stop.

How long to they have to be in existence for that non-sense to stop?

They are not going anywhere, as much as other watch manufacturers would love it (jealousy is an ugly emotion).

I'll admit that RM is not one of my favorite brands aesthically but the watch on the driver's wrist looks stunning and in its element. I think the partnership is pure brilliance on RM's part, increasing brand awareness and prestige by being associated with the most expensive and sexy sport on earth.

Keep in mind one of their most popular watches is a Massa (for over 15 years)...so no stranger to F1. They also had the Lotus.

Agree though, to have a complete car sponsorship is a huge deal ($$ wise included). It's what RM is all about...

Because Red Bull threw their toys out of the pram, Renault decided to take their destiny into their own hands and bought the Lotus team. This has nothing to do with Lotus Cars which is actually improving and still part of Proton.

RM hardly needs an excuse for doing that.
I seriously hope this year's car isn't as much of a donkey as last year's clearly was.

Not fussed on the styling of RM, I was hoping a tie up with Rolex would have been better.

Both are technologically highly advanced particularly in the use of materials. They are also pursuing non conventional solutions to the problems their industry or business faces.

Both are also very high end in terms of pricing of their products for sale. I honestly can't think of a better fit for McLaren.

Exactly. Rolex is a marketing success story and is also marketing a success story. Ultimately it's ubiquitous and a conservative choice that fits a broad spectrum of owners whilst flogging fairly simple sentiments about achievement. I don't think Rolex has really done anything technologically very interesting in a long time. RM will always be more niche and are marketing to a more design and tech driven sector of the market.

Thanks for this - appreciate the comment.

We need to get Bernie to open his wallet and pay a contribution to this year's race in Austin!

It's actually the State of Texas that needs to cough up that cash they promised. For the economic impact it brings the state/city it's a no brainer. But politics at there finest playing out. Hope someone caves and the engines roar this year at COTA

Would love to finally say goodbye to the Melbourne event. To my knowledge no one has ever been able to prove any economic benefit to the city but there is plenty of evidence to the contrary. Anyone know who the major sponsor is? ... Yep you got it in one!
