Well after 54 years on this planet, yesterday I finally bought my first Rolex. I now have a Z Series GMT Master II with Coke Bezel.

When the M-Series models came out with the 3186 movement the year after your Z Series was made, Rolex designated attached letters to the reference numbers to differentiate them. The 16710A, with the black over red bezel, was referenced as "A" because the red/black bezel is best. Pay no attention to anyone who tells you otherwise, they have no taste.

The blue-over-red model (the "B", "too-bad-for-you" model) is available to those not fortunate enough to score a 16710A or for those whose work uniform includes size 42 shoes, an orange wig and red rubber nose. They are also popular with Mott the Hoople fans and people who believe mullet haircuts represent the pinnacle of male coiffure.
