15400ST blue dial

Just wondering if any of you own a 15400ST blue dial and if it is rare or if there is a wait list for it. I understand that it is boutique only and the closest one to me is in NYC. Trying to decide between that or a 15202. I like the size of the 15450 but it only comes with a silver dial.

I was leaning towards the 15202 but I like having a seconds hand. My wrist size is about 6.5 inches so i felt the 15400 was a little big but not too bad.

Very different watches

I would suggest, strong suggest, you head for the Boutique before making your decision.

The two watches feel remarkably different on the wrist - the 15400 feels heavier, more substantial, and "chunkier".

You also have to decide whether you like seeing a second hand move or not - for me the 15202 felt "mute" - I missed the second hand.

The 15202 is an icon with arguably greater pedigree than it's obvious contemporary rival the 5711.

I would also suggest while in NYC that your check out the 5711 also, though finding a blue dial version is likely to be extremely difficult. Phone around first!

I tried all 3 a few years ago and ended up with the blue dial 15300 as my preference.

Are we absolutely sure it can only be bought in boutiques? I know the websites say so but still.

I would go to NYC and try them all on before deciding. The cost of the trip will be less expensive than a mistake and flip.

You can also buy the 15400 in a black dial (my personal favorite). Not just silver or blue.

I fully agree with others about trying both on first. Despite the popularity, I liked the 15400 more than the 202.

I have one. The 202 felt too dressy for my daily wearer.

15202 would be a great choice.

I'd pick the 400 due to size and the seconds hand. 25820 was 39mm and had no seconds hand, though I loved the watch, it eventually found its way to the FSOT chopping block.

I have seen one new and available several months back at an AD, not a boutique so it doesn't hurt to ask around first.

ADs will occasionally get one, that being said it is a rare occurrence.

I agree

The 15202 and 15400 are very different in feel more than look. Putting both on the wrist should be a priority. You may find that the size difference and the lack of a second hand push you towards the 15400. Otherwise, the 15202 carries a history and pedigree that does set it apart (including price) from the 15400.

Good luck finding a blue, even at a boutique. I've visited the NYC boutique several times and they have had nothing but white/black dials. Maybe even call first.

I still haven't had the time to go try on the watches. Have any of you been able to get the AD to size the watch so that you can get a better feel of what it's like on your wrist? I asked at a Rolex AD and they refused.

I have never asked but assume if anything MAYBE special clients would get that option. Imagine if they needed to adjust bracelets for every person trying on a watch.

Good point. I didn't argue with the AD and purchased a DJ on a jubilee bracelet. I later found that my wrist is in between a link size and I might have realized this before buying it. It fits perfectly when it's cool but as soon as my wrist expands a bit it can get a little uncomfortable which is what I am worried about with the RO.

You do run the risk of not having a perfect fit when you're looking at a watch with no micro-adjustments. That being said the RO does have an option for a 1.5 link and you should be able to get a pretty good fit.
