GMT Master II 'Pepsi' questions
Hi, first post on here but have been browsing for a while.
I am looking at buying a GMT Master II with the 'Pepsi' bezel, I have found a 2001 model in a shop through a friend so I am happy all is legit. This will be my first Rolex and first pre owned watch so is there any due diligence I need to do before handing over the money? I have seen a few for sale that mention they originally had a black bezel but had it swapped out for either a 'Pepsi' or 'coke' coloured one. Is there any value in having a watch that came with the different coloured bezel from new? And is there any way of telling from the serial number? Sorry if they are silly questions but couldnt find any answers from searching the web or the forum. Looking forward to owning my first Rolex! |

No, the watches are identical and there is no way to tell what insert came in what watch based on a serial number.
Some US models did have a build suffix on the original paperwork such as 16710A, B, or N for black. There is no value difference since any insert can be fitted at any time.

As Larry mentioned, so long as you are looking at a 16710 reference GMT, it was available in all three bezels - Coke, Pepsi, and all black.

GMT Master II 'Pepsi' questions
As Larry said, the GMT itself is mechanically identical regardless of the bezel insert's color.
As for the value question, you will find varying degrees of WIS-dom on the point of originality. By that I mean if you were to sell it later, having original paperwork that showed 16710B For. Pepsi GMT is construed by some WIS as a major plus. The same is true of the other GMT icon - the Root Beer insert on the two-tone model. But if you're just going to enjoy it for your natural lifetime, and the seller is legit, then not an issue...

Hello
Welcome to the forum. I see you are in St Albans, I'm in WGC. Have you seen the watch in a local shop? |

As mentioned, if you trust the seller and it's the watch you want then get it. You can swap out the bezels so I'd focus more on the watch quality, service, cost, etc, than which bezel it has.

Thanks for all the replies, it's a good friend who has dealt with this shop before and has seen the watch in question with papers so I am happy with them.
Will let you know how I get on. Ratty, it's a not from St Albans, Kings Hill Jewellers has Submariners every so often but I was looking for a Kermit or a GMT Pepsi and this one came up not too far away. |

I picked the watch up a couple of days ago and am very happy with it! Having only tried Subs and a Milgauss on I thought the GMT would feel bigger for some reason but it feels like the perfect size and weight.
I really like the colour of the bezel and love the way the GMT hand works. I travel a lot for work so look forward to using that feature for real! I bought it from Maunder Watches in Guilford and can recommend them, Oscar was a great to deal with and they obviously have a passion and knowledge for watches. Just need to get a written valuation for insurance purposes now, Allianz added it to my home insurance policy for £13 for the remaining 6 months so another recommendation there!
