Need help/advice potential purchase 116610LV HULK
Greetings from the UK,
this forum and its members have always generated such a wealth of information i had to start a thread on a scenario i find myself in, and require some advice… no better place to ask then from fellow enthuiasts , general purchasers and sellers of Rolex and other luxury time pieces.. I have an opportunity to potentially purchase a 2013 SUB stainless steel 116610LV (HULK), i have recently grown quite fond of this watch since its updates and now find myself contemplating this purchase quite seriously.. The sale is between myself directly and the seller who i found online selling it via a online sales site, he purchased the watch pre-owned from a well known pre owned watch specialist (they have a few branches scattered around London and i am aware of them), the watch is in good overall condition from the images i have seen sent to me, and he also has the original green leather box, cream outer box suede cloth and all important warranty card. I even asked for a face to face inspection and he is happy to accommodate, and i requested to see and include the original receipt of his purchase in 2013 which he agreed. My concern is obvious, how do i know this isn't a good fake? As upon my purchase of my 116520 SS a few years ago, the seller told me of examples he had faced where a very good fake passed through his hands and his watch technicians, and they were astounded to find only after several days of inspecting it to be a fake, and informed me good fakes are not cheap but still cheaper than a genuine rolex hence why they make them and try to sell them. For some reason i keep thinking of this conversation and wish to take measures to safeguard myself.. As copies have probably become more refined since my last purchase of a Rolex. So what would you do? any suggestions would be great.. i can request the serial no? but how concrete is that? Could we both go to a Authorised dealer hand the watch over, he gives the thumbs up to say its genuine and i hand over the cash.. Would the dealer frown upon this type of activity in the store as its a pre owned sale? I'm just trying to think outside the box here what do you guys think? |

Pay a Rolex authorized dealer who has a Rolex certified watch maker for an appraisal. Ask him to look under the hood and make sure it looks alright. That way the AD is making 50$ or so and you get peace of mind.

Unless you know who you're actually dealing with, don't buy online and if you do buy online then avoid chrono24 and other grey markets, just stick to something reliable like watchfinder until you know what you're doing.

This is probably the safest way when dealing with pre-owned but there are sellers like WF, Blowers and Watchcentre that you can trust. I'd rather deal with them.

Have it looked at at AD with a watchmaker if you aren't 100% sure but open any fake and its immediately obvious. They don't fake the internals. Look for the markings like LEC and other anti counterfeiting markings. As always buy the seller not the watch.

Sounds pretty good with documentation, sales receipts and boxes/cards.
If you buy the watch only without extra links, I always wonder if it is a legit Rolex but just stolen. |
