Am I the only one who doesn't LOVE the new ceramic Daytona? (Not Trolling)
The ceramic bezel is a no brainer for this piece and something all of us have been wanting for years. I liked the fact that Rolex kept the dimensions at 40mm and decided not to add a date wheel no matter how many people asked for it BUT I wish they would've made the subdials a solid color and ditched the rings. It really makes the watch pop! Not much has been changed to the dial which is disappointing to me. I used to own a 6263 and if they copied that dial design IMO the piece would've been PERFECT. Maybe I am just too picky. I'll keep dreaming that they release a later version some day with a tribute to the Paul Newman dial. That would be the ultimate modern day Daytona (Pic is of my old 6263)

i like it. but i also agree with you. its the exact same daytona with a ceramic bezel. big deal.
a newer evolution was necessary truth be told rolex should sell steel and ceramic models as opposed to replacing. some like steel...some like ceramic....i wanted the ceramic but not this...i wanted more 'changes' |

I disagree. I think the new black bezel with white dial is a beauty. Your 6263 was a beauty also.
The dial brought back the "pop" that it had on the old zenith version that it was missing with the silver surrounds. I'm talking white dial of course...the black dial is admittedly less exciting. |

i unloaded my daytona black SS for an AP diver....plan being that i would buy the 'new' ceramic.....now i will just pass.....i love the new DJ41 w updated movement and jubilee.....that was rolexes biggest release.....
many said the DJ241mm being discontinued was rolex going back to its 'roots' the fact they stayed with a 41, added a jubilee and their latest greatest movement is a testament to moving forward they took the easy road out on the daytona SS.....ceramic bezel or not, than why not at least release 2 versions 42mm, 40mm..... clearly i will get ripped but hey..... |

I think you're going to be waiting a long time if you expect Rolex to make all the changes you're wanting...

I do like the new Daytona very much and will be trying to get my hands on one. I do, however, agree that they could have done a bit more. For me, I would have loved brushed lugs and center links and increased legibility. From the pictures, it appears that the hands will continue to blend into the dial, particularly on the black dial. Hope I'm wrong if and when I get to see one in the metal.

I agree panda and reverse panda dials would have been my ideal but overall I think we are bloody lucky we got the nice PM style Tachy numbers given their penchant for differentiating PM/SS. Can always source the PM dials however.

It's a great addition to the line up, but it doesn't persuade me to buy one.

Neil, You and I always seem to be on the same page Would've loved panda and reverse panda dials. I wasn't asking for much. If I really had my way the crown guards would be gone as well

It's really hard to say without seeing one in person. The rose gold yachtmaster on rubber band looks beautiful and stunning in pictures, but underwhelming in person. I'll wait to pass judgement until I'm able to physically put my hands on one.

It's a great watch but so is the non ceramic Daytona. It's simply not for me. I like a date function.

It's a very different looking watch, and not exactly what I'm looking for in a Daytona. It's now more sporty, in the vein of a sub.

It's a great watch; can't think of a Daytona model I wouldn't by happy to have. Like the new white faced one the better.

Here's where I differ from normal people. I don't like the Daytona. I'm just not a fan. I own four watches, two I love and two are okay. The two that are okay are chronograph. They look too busy IMHO. So the Daytona, with all the extra dials and the heavily marked bezel, is not aestheticly appealing to me.
That being said, the mechanics of the movement, are fantastic! To pack that much into a movement, having it be accurate and all run off of a metal band that is wound tight is amazing. I feel that watch engineering is one of the most fascinating things in the world. It baffles me how these things work, and are so accurate. Maybe as I grow older, and wealthier, I will add something with more complications than the date. Last edited by beancooker; 20 March 2016 at 01:12 PM.. Reason: Spelling error |

Thanks for the kind words Russell! I wanted to buy a Patek so I sold her. Unfortunately we can't keep them all but she was a beauty. My only complaint was when I dressed up to go out it never seemed to work for me and lacked that special feel. A great piece for casual wear.

I prefer a natural comfortable attire and so the 6263 would work great for me but I can see the Patek being better suited for dressy attire so it makes sense. I have ones I never wear including this WG Patek I should probably sell. It's the first watch I bought from DavidSW. This is the only pic I have of it and it's the screen shot from his add. Good post. Russell.

Plenty of us don't LOVE it.
I like both the black and white, but not nearly enough to buy. |

Personally, I think the Daytona is a home run, but you are certainly entitled to your own opinion.
