Always greener....

I am wondering if I am normal... Well, let me take that question back because the answer is a very well known "NO" But... Well.... Is this feeling normal?

To start with, I have loved my EX II Polar the two years I have owned it.... Sometimes I just sit and stare at it.... I just recently discovered it actually tells the time Since Basel, I am on the waiting list for TWO (2) new watches at my AD, the Cer Daytona, and the DJ41 I am SO EXCITED So, here is my question:

Is it normal for me to feel less excited about my EX II ? I mean, I still love it, but ... Well... The "gleam" of it has been over-shadowed by my excitement of the two new models I will be getting. I find myself looking at their pictures on the Rolex website more then I am staring at my EX.

I don't know... I feel.. A little... Guilty Kind of like I am being disloyal to a child when there is another on the way or something....

Anybody else understand/feel like that?

No need to pledge, Paul has it covered!

Yes, to your question, but a year or so after you have the new watches, that will subside. You will be happy you have all three, I predict.

Completely normal. You will fall back in love with it. It is a different watch than the other two you have on order - they are all beautiful in their own way. Put it away for a few days and wear something else. Put her back on after a few days and you will appreciate her more

Well first, congrats in advance on what are sure to be two instant classics.

Second, yes that's totally normal. Don't feel bad. Although some of us treat them like our children, they're not, they're just watches and it's OK to lost some enthusiasm. In fact it's ok to completely fall out of love with a watch and sell it, or give it away even (PM me for details on giving it away;)

Lastly, I know this sounds completely crazy, but there's a little excercise I like to practice after years of experience buying and selling things and coming across sellers remorse more than once.

Take your explorer II, gather up you extra links, booklets, paperwork, boxes. Clean the watch thoroughly, wipe it down and make it look as good as it could possibly be. Take a good hard look at it and begin packing up the set. Find a nice shipping box, pad it well and package up your watch for shipping. Tape up the box securely and place it some safe in your house.

Wait 4 weeks. If after 4 weeks you feel like you have not missed your watch and have little interest in opening up the box to see your trusty timepiece, maybe it's time to trade it sell it or move on. If you're not so sure, open up the package and perform a private little mock incoming and unboxing!

If you want to take this a step further do everything I mentioned and actually list the watch for sale. You'll know if regret is setting in and quite possibly you'll rekindle your obsession with your EXII.

I've always found while getting items ready for sale I really start to get a grasp on how much it means to me.

Whew, is that normal? That sounds crazy I think.

What is crazy, in the context of our little obsession?

I do that too. Pack it all up and pretend its gone. Sometimes I need to bring it back, other times I just ship it off. Bon voyage!

That's totally normal. My PAM only gets one day of wrist time a month. I don't dislike it but I just never put it on.

When I finally unloaded mine it felt like a monkey was off my back. I can totally understand the hesitation for some though when you realize how bad of an investment it was.

Totally normal! It's the WIS inside us. I find the best thing to do is try and have a "cool off" period and commit to not flipping frequently.

I was just in the same boat with an IWC I have. I got the itch to flip to a BLNR. Good thing I got good advice from fellow TRFers who reminded me why I liked it to begin with!

Paul nothing strange in that, nothing more exciting than a new relationship esp when it comes out of the blue. Maintenance is the hard part.

Exactly, Neil. There's always a honeymoon period with anything new, but it always wears off...true love remains.
