1 Sub and 1 Gmt. What next?
Morning to all.
Have not purchased a watch for some time and looking for some suggestions. I have a few modern Rolexes that need to leave the collection. Even a 16710 and 16610LV don't get any wear any more, let alone the more modern. For some reason, a simple matte dial vintage sports model is what I really prefer sporting. I can't think of any reason to buy another vintage sub or another GMT. I enjoy mine a lot, but want something different. I would love to see your suggestions on what to get next. Looking still for a sport model vintage Rolex. Ideally under the $20K range. I know that rids the Daytona out of the picture. Perhaps another option is to wait till I could pull a Daytona off. Like to hear your thoughts anyway. Feel free to suggest with pics from your collections also. Thanks |

Have you considered an Explorer?
Either a 1016 or 1655?

Perhaps a 1655? Still very sporty but with a different look than either the GMT or Sub.
Or if Tudor is an option perhaps a big block as a Daytona alternative?

Explorer 1016 would be a great choice!

Although you have all but ruled it out, I still believe a Daytona would be the best thing to complement the sub and gmt.
It's not quite vintage yet, but perhaps an early nineties zenith 16520 could be an option. I think it's the ultimate trifecta. Covered for land, sea and air. Here are mine. However they are all 6 digit models Sent using Tapatalk

Both good options in fact.
Tried the 1016 gilt dial, and though I liked the look it was just on the smaller side for my wrists. It is a cool watch otherwise. Surprising the prices of it didnt hike as much as other gilts (sub,GMT). Perhaps due to size? Quote:
I do not like that tudor. Thanks! Quote:
I don't know how else to say but that modern Rolexes do not have the same appeal. This does seem like a good option. Thanks |

In the sports genre I'd be looking at a really nice cream 1655. If you could wait it out and keep saving a nice 6263 would be killer.

More and different subs! Regardless, there is NO wrong decision in my opinion.

For me I went with a 1016, a 1018, and a 16570 along with the 5513 and 1675. I now have a Rolex for all occasions IMO

I am in a similar situation. My collection keeps aging as I do. Have very little love for the modern Rolex other than to look at them.
I have a gilt 1966 5513, 1970 1675, 1967 1002 and a 16570 from 2000. The 1002 is really the wife's. The 16570 will get moved to a vintage soon. I love the look of a 1665 but it just does not wear good on me. Sits to high. Tried a 1016 before and also did not like the smaller size. So the most logical choice is a 1655 or a 6263/6265...or ideally both |

Blue Tudor Snowflake is a great option IMO and very different.
The 5512/13 or 1680 depending on if your current sub has a date. 1665 is always a good option and under 20k you can get a nice rail dial. Can't go wrong with a 1680 red of course. Many options my friend, you're in a good position, best wishes. |

Or for something even more varied, maybe a polar 16550 like this one:

Not so fast. While not a vintage watch, the 2016 Daytona with its black bezel is a very nice and modern homage to the original vintage classic and far more affordable too. That's what I'm going to rock come this Fall. |

These two would be great options if one was looking for something different besides a Sub or GMT.

How about a Tudor Snowflake? Or maybe a Fresscione (sp) 1655?
