I am on a wait list for the Daytona-C (I still like the Daytona500 moniker better), and I am absolutely in love with it. With that said, there's one design element that slightly bugs me: the screw locks on the start/stop and reset pushers.

Other brand watches don't need the screw lock to be water resistance. Rolex's own YMII doesn't need or have it, nor does some of the earlier Daytonas. And Daytona is not even a dive watch.

So what's the reason for it other than for the sake of its form? More interestingly, what's your preference regarding having vs. not having the screw locks on the pushers?

I personally prefer not having the screw locks for ease of operation and cleaner look...

Although second thought, I think the YM2 should have locks on the pushers. I would imagine boats rock more than cars....

Got it. I was going to guess they were to keep out fine dust particles from race cars but the reason you stated makes sense

I personally didn't mind the look. Looks fine to me if screwed in. Also make the pusher bigger to push when unscrewed.

I like the look of them, but admit that it does detract slightly from its usefulness. I find myself playing with the Chrono more on my watches without screw downs.

It's a look that Rolex has chosen. If all watches were designed the same then we would all be wearing the same thing..

If you don't want to "lock" the pushers you can leave them un-screwed and they will be there to use at any time.

As mentioned, the seals for water-proofing are o-rings inside the case and not the lock-rings.

TBH I would rather have them than not, I like the added security. But it's not a deal breaker either way.

I like them. On my Big Block it feels almost like a ceremony when you unscrew them and screw them back. Otherwise you might as well use a digital timer.

As far as I know, the screwin function deserves a similar purpose like he screw-down crown.
If the crown/ pushers are only kept centered ( and so the gaskets) by their tiny stems, every knock will result in a non-waterreststant watch!

By screwing in/on all forces are directed to the case and don't damage the stems.

That is actually one of the reasons I like the Daytona. Other brands (Tudor, Zenith) have that on their designs as well, think looks pretty and sophisticated.

I personally like the looks of the screw down pushers but don't like it from a usability standpoint. Still a fantastic watch.

I prefer the screw down pushers as opposed to standard piston-pushers....even on vintage Daytonas the look is so substantial! I wish the new Daytona C didn't have any crown guards!

I could be wrong but I thought they were to prevent pushing when submerged. If you activate the pushers when the watch is under water it will let water in. So they are for water proofing. Right?

The use of screw-down pushers was one of the primary reasons I let my white face SS Daytona go recently. :( Just didn't get along with the concept.
