Day date 40 movement issues

I mentioned in any earlier thread that my week-old DD 40 (with the new 3255 movement) was erratic in changing-over at midnight, sometimes being 'out' by 80 minutes. Weirdly, this issue does not arise if you try to check by winding the hands forward over 24 hours. Anyway, The Rolex service people say the watch needs to go back to them. It should change on, or very close to, the midnight position .
There's something else interesting I have observed. The timekeeping is close to the advertised plus or minus two seconds (actually about minus 3 seconds a day.)
But here's the interesting thing. The variation between 'rest' and 'active' seems higher than for my Sub and Milgauss. When active, the DD40 is precise. Over a 16 hour period it is almost spot on. But when 'at rest' the 3255 loses seconds surprisingly quickly...three seconds in eight hours.
All watches show variations with position and activity. But this one sample of the 3255 is showing less consistency than either of my 3155 based watches. Which is the opposite of what Rolex have claimed for the new movement.
This could be entirely untypical of the 3255 in general, and it might be influenced by the problems with the day-date complication.
I'l outline all this to Rolex and we'll see what they have to say, or indeed do. They's a great firm and will get to the bottom of this, it might be something trivial. But I'd like to know. Just out of curiosity.

IMO, it was the right decision to send it back

Thanks for the post
Will be interesting to see how the new movements do
Undoubtedly, Rolex has done extensive testing and simulations, but once something is released into the wild, unexpected issues arise

Interesting.

Let us know how the watch performs when you get it back from service.

In response to the changing of day and date, it is possible it does not have enough energy to move both the day and date wheels. Maybe you can try winding the watch 40 to 60 times.

For accuracy, please refer to the following post:

Hope this help.

It's a shame when a brand-new watch has to be sent back in, but I hope you get it back in tip-top shape!

I'm not that particular with my timekeeping, so it wouldn't bother me, but to each his own!

The watch had been worn extensively and also wound fully. Remember this is a three-day movement so it should have enough energy .Especially as the 3255 is supposed to wind more efficiently.
Anyway, we will see. Rolex will sort it out.

Is the cost of the DD40 so high because of the new movement or because the watches only come in gold or platinum?

When introduced last year DD40 MSRP was exactly the same as MSRP for DDII that was replaced.

For what it is worth, mine works perfectly. The day and date change at midnight.
