Having both a DSSD and D-Blue too overkill??
Arrgh! Just picked up a Hulk last week, and now there is a D-Blue in stock. They said it was only their 4th one that they've received. (Should I believe that?)
I already have a standard DSSD (Mk-I dial). Is also having the D-Blue too redundant? I loved the dial!! Reminded me of all the Prada stuff my wife was into a year or two ago. Seemed quite unique. I was thinking my next watch would be the AP Diver (white dial) but now I'm not sure. :-/ Current stable: DSSD, Hulk, GMT-C, SS Daytona white. Panerai 305, 243 subs, 000 Logo. BP Fifty Fathoms black. Tempted to trade in the 243, but that will be ~$5k (maybe it's worth keeping that one? Although I do wear the 305 way more.) Is the D-Blue that hard to find? Should I just wait it out a few months? |

They don't seem to be easy to find at ADs.
But as time goes by, that should improve. When I got my D-Blue at an AD in the Bay Area last year, I called more than a dozen ADs in and near the Bay Area. Only one AD had a Blue in stock, on which someone else had paid a deposit. I just simply wanted to see one, so drove an hour to do so. The AD ended up selling it to me. The other ADs said they only have received a few and had several people on wait lists. I've not seen a D-Blue at another Bay Area AD. I had a black DSSD before, and missed it. Love the Blue much more. They do look quite different, so I guess both could be in a collection. |

Would be overkill for me, YMMV. I'd much rather have your collection swapping the DSSD for D-Blue and adding the black dial Diver.

It's only overkill if you can't afford both. ;-)

I visited 15+ ADs UK and US and nobody had one, Rolex boutique at Heathrow T5 said they'd never had one! I'd get it and sell your black dial.

T5 Rolex store did have a d blue, on the day it opened, but it sold very fast. I was there that day. Rarely ever see the same staff in there, so they wouldn't have know.

Perhaps DSSD Deep Blue and a 116600 would be a more diverse combo.

I personally would never own both of these watches. Just too similar and there's so many amazing watches out there I'd want to try first before owning two of the same reference.

If you can do it why not buy it without selling anything. Wear it in your collection and see if it fits in or if you need to move another piece or two. I would be tempted on adding a Hulk. Less expensive and a unique watch that is not in your collection.

Personally, I think you were on the right track.
I'd go with the AP diver with your collection |

Look how many on here have more than one Sub, more than one Daytona etc. One member has several Sea-Dweller. If you want the DSSD blue and black dials, then knock yourself out.
And yep, the D-Blue is hard to find. My AD here had one last year and my one at home had four, including mine. If money is not an issue then do it, you won't regret it

Get the D Blue!
The D Blue adds a little pizazz and color to the model, and I think it's more interesting than the standard DSSD. Sell your black face and get the D Blue!

I have a feeling if you get the D-Blue you won't wear the other DSSD very often. I'd flip that and buy the AP diver. Best of both worlds!

It would be too much for me.
I'd flip the black DSSD for the D Blue and sell the 243 towards a Diver. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I used to aim for diversity in my collection, and found myself buying pieces that ended up going unused. Now, I buy what I know works for me - for example, I have a SD4K, SD16600, Pelagos, and several subs. They all serve arguably the same/similar functions, but I am happy with them.
Plenty of room for the DSSD and D blue if you love and would wear both. If you can, perhaps buy the D blue and sell whichever DSSD spends most of its time on the winder afterwards. |

You should sell the black DSSD. It will become redundant when you get the DBlue.

I have both and they're my only Rolex watches.
It's the closest I will ever come to being a 1 Rolex guy The black is a daily wearer with the D-Blue intended for special occasions. With essentially having the same watch there's no adjustment from one watch to the other like going from a large/heavy watch to a smaller/lighter one as they're sized exactly the same. The D-Blue is very hard to come by at the dealers. I have 2 dealers in my locale, 1 has only ever had a single D-Blue come into stock. The other has had a few but he believes the scarcity of the D-Blue is comparable to the SS Daytona it's that hard to get hold of. |

I would definitely pick up the D-Blue but would probably flip the black dial. I picked up a BLNR and flipped the LN. I also picked up a WG Sub and flipped my TT Sub.
One would be enough for me. Go for it!

If you can afford it go for it. Me personally wouldn't have both. I would just go with the D-Blue.
