Beer

There is a program on History Channel right now on beer. Some really smart people are saying that the cultivation of grains to make beer over 4000 years ago was the first seeds of civilization. I KNEW THAT!!! And I'm not a smart man.
(See how smart I am? I used seeds and cultivation in the same sentence.

Lets see...seeds and cultivation? I wonder if your seeds were somehow part of the current cultivation called TWINS.

I thought I would introduce some decorum for you Adrian
Adrian being a Brit will know this but Britain during the industrial revolution largely escaped wide outbreaks of water born diseases because of the preference for the working classes to drink tea and beer rather than water.
Us Brits like carrying on traditions Heres to all the British and Irish breweries
Licensing laws were only introduced into Britain in WW1, because the government wanted to control the drunken working classes consumption which was effecting the war effort
OK guys carry on with the jokes

You drink beer, so you are smart. Remember beer - it made Bud Wiser

Thanks for the history lesson

True!

If I want good American beer I will drink Samuel Adams or a microbrew, forget the Bud, Miller or Coors

In Britain there is an organisation called Campaign for real ale (Camra) which has helped to revive interest in regional and smaller breweries. Camra was set up in the 1970's as a response to the large breweries trying to kill off local and smaller brewers.

Thought I would hop back in here and I see I barley made it. There are some good American beers on the market now with the advent of the many local micro breweries popping up all over the country. I really like trying their offerings in my travels. It's not all water. Although, I will admit 6 or 8 Coors Lights on the golf course are pretty refreshing. Just hate restocking at the turn.

I believe the guys who built the pyramids got free beer. Now that must have been a good contract to be on. I'll have to ask JJ what it was like.

Didn't Budwiser just get sold to a European company?

Nothing as good as an ice cold beer on a hot day

Yup, InBev in Belgium.

While I usually enjoy a better American beer (Summit, Sierra Nevada, etc.), sometimes there's no substitute for the refreshment of a PBR. My wife who ususally hates beer has taken a liking to Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy.

My business takes me to Milwaukee pretty frequently, so I'm also drinking Miller products with clientele.

Also, I saw on television yesterday that the vehicles used at the Democratic National Convention in Denver will be powered by ethanol distilled from beer, courtesy of Coors.

Yep a pint of Guinness is my favourite, but it's gotta be a draught beer from a pub, not from a can

My favorite bottled beer (lager style) is Peroni, and cider is Magners

Real ales, Gales HSB, Timothy Taylor, London Pride

Scientists have revealed a formula to calculate how "beer goggles" affect a drinker's vision. The well-known booze-fuelled phenomenon gradually transforms ugly people into beauties - until the morning after.
Now researchers at Manchester University can explain and quantify the effect after developing a formula. And while beauty is in the sight of the beer-holder, the amount of alcohol consumed is not the only factor in the beer goggle effect, researchers say.

Additional factors include the level of light in the pub or club, the drinkers own eyesight, the smokiness of the room and the distance between two people. All add up to make the aesthetically challenged more attractive, according to the formula.

Professor Nathan Efron, Professor of Clinical Optometry at the University of Manchester, said: "The beer goggles effect isn't solely dependent on how much alcohol a person consumes, there are other influencing factors at play too. "The formula shows for example, that a person with poor vision who's talking to someone in a very smoky bar will be experiencing a beer goggles effect close to someone who has consumed eight pints in a smoke-free and well-lit room."

Final score

The formula can work out a final score to measure the effect.
Less than 1, means no beer goggle effect - an "ugly" person remains ugly.
A score of 1-50 means a slight beer goggle effect - making a person you would normally find very unattractive slightly less "visually offensive".
A score of 51 - 100 means a moderate beer goggle effect - a person who is by no means appealing becomes suddenly sexually attractive.
A score of more than 100 means a severe beer goggle effect - the "minger" you were talking to an hour ago now looks like Kylie Minogue or George Clooney.

The professor added: "Thus, for example, someone with normal vision (6/6) who has consumed five pints of beer and views a person 1.5 metres away in a fairly smoky (grade 7) and poorly lit (30 candelas per square metre) room will score 55, which means that they would suffer from a moderate beer goggle effect.

"Increasing beer consumption to eight pints would give a score of 140, leading to a severe beer goggle effect."
