Day-Date made me a one watch guy
I never set out for it to end this way. I enjoyed variety. I wanted to sample it all. Straps and bracelets and interesting complications.
2 years ago I bought a Day-Date, and thought I would alternate it with a smurf sub and a couple others. Now, I've moved on nearly everything else... Omega, PAM, VC, JLC, too many Rolexes to count, etc. I haven't worn anything but this in 18 months or so. It feels a bit like my watch "collecting" days might be over. There are lots of 1 or 2 watch people, but anyone end up that way without intending to? |

If I owned a stunning white gold day date I would have trouble putting on anything else in the morning too.
I became a one watch guy for different reasons, but it is a nice feeling. Sometimes less is more.

I bought my YG DD thinking it would sit in the safe most of the time. Not so, all other watches are sitting in the safe now. I think the same thing might be happening to me.
It's getting serviced by Boris (luxurywatchbuyer) right now. I'm hoping he will drop it off today for shipping back to me. I do miss it... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Interesting post! How does it adapt to dress down occasions such as jeans/T-shirt, playing in the park with kids etc.?
I have a wg sky-d, which shares many design features with this such as PCL, fluted bezel, cyclops etc., and while I use it almost always for semi-formal/formal occasions, I find it a bit hard to dress down. |

Oddly enough, I have been going down the same path; sold three other sports Rolexes to fund a white gold Day date 40; now I rarely wear anything else. It is just a pure delight. I now find the sports Rolexes a touch 'obvious'.
But i'm getting older and perhaps the DD is an old mans watch? Me, I just love it. BTW: what a fabulous dial..never seen one of those before. |

Nice watch! I'm usually not a fan of diamonds on a men's watch, but they work really well with the meteorite dial.

I never thought about it but if I were to have a one watch collection either day date or sky d would be in order. And yes, your DD looks awesome!

I wore it during spring break with the kids, hiking at Zion and Bryce National Parks. I wear jeans 97% of the time when I'm not meeting with clients or attending a formal event. That picture I posted is in jeans and Nikes. Izod shirt with my sleeves rolled up. |

My age still begins with a 4, but we're all getting older. :-) The dial is a slice of Gibeon meteorite, and this specific dial is called a "Masterpiece" dial. They are fairly rare. I expect that's at least in part because they carry a stiff up charge from a standard dial. |

Hi,
I had a Day-Date in yellow gold for six years, and I felt exactly the same way. It was for me just the perfect watch - I completely lost any interest in buying any more pieces or collecting anything else. There's nothing quite like having a Day-Date on your wrist, or so I found anyway ! |

Have you moved on to something now? Did you lose interest in the DD, or did something else catch your eye? |

My YG DD was my grail for many years. Though that I would be a one watch guy once I finally got it. I was wrong. Now I am a 5 watch guy and I sold the DD because it never got wrist time. Different strokes, I guess!

Although not a day date, I keep coming back to my simple yet elegant, datejust. I've sold explorer I and Explorer II and Sub. I just love the simplicity and how it does everything well. Plus aren't a dime a dozen in the wild. I see WAY more subs.
I love your meteorite dial !

Loving the dial, i have alternated with different watches and i find that I get something and wear it all of the time, except when Im sleeping.
Im lucky that i don't have a manual job but if i do do something that is a bit risky, i will just take it off for that time and then its straight back on the arm. I reckon that dial on yours sports it up a bit and makes it more versatile. What age is it? mines circa 1990: pic below. Ive considered a diffrent dial but i don't think i will just yet: |

Stunning watch with an even more stunning dial. I was curious how well it does dressed down but your casual pic has me convinced. Hats off to you!

Unfortunately, I had to let it go for financial reasons. Had I not had to do that, I'd still be wearing it now, without a doubt. I still have a yellow gold Rolex Cellini which I bought around the same time as the Day-Date, and just recently added a second Rolex again to my collection, an all-steel Oyster Perpetual. My daily rotation these days is between those two and my Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso. |

I really like JLC. I enjoyed my Master Geographic and my Reverso Grande GMT. Maybe it's time to consolidate back to a new/used DD for you? :-)

That Day-Date feeling
What can I say? I swore i'd never do it! Gold watches where for retirees, old men.
Gifts given for long service? That being said The Day Date had been growing on my for awhile. The 1st DD I ever saw was given to a Colleague by Elton John for being a long standing tour manager I'm sure it would been 1803. Fast Forward 20 years and I bought my wife a 18k Midsize Date-Just on a President Bracelet. From there I got gold fever.. I would look endlessly at DD's in AD's and Vintage shops. Most of the 2nd hand ones I tried where nearly all to Small. Seems people must loose? or sell links? So after deciding that I would pull the trigger the Hunt began. I confess that I loved the 18248. Whilst the Stella dials where interesting I wanted a watch with the double quickset and 3155 movement with a gold dial not wood. And So i found one with 25 links, gold dial stick markers and the beloved bark! I think the bark gives it a great look and having worn out in public once I have already received compliments. Now that its a week old! I cannot take it off my wrist. The 1675 will become a safe queen. |

Ever since I got my day date, it's been tough wearing anything else. I haven't got the courage to sell off my collection yet though...

Very nice DD, sweet dial on that! I love my DD, but do like to rotate through my 2 other DJ's.
