Sub-Date

Hello all. After inheriting a 14k Rolex Cellini from my grandfather, I really came to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into these timepieces. It blows my mind this baby still ticks away likes nobody's business..

I could never wear this watch (too small, but that was the style in the 60's??) so I looked for something more suited for my lifestyle. Please allow me to present my newest acquisition as of this weekend:

Beautiful watches. Both very nice in their own way.

Nice pair. The old with the new. That Cellini would make such a fine dress wear watch!!

The lug-holes vanished from the late Y-series. Yes, the Z's are not supposed to have lug holes....no way!!

How would one deal with scratches on the bezel? Is the Sub bezel replaceable, and typically how much would one cost?

The black bezel inserts are replaceable, and quite easy to replace if you know how, cost around £35 to £40.Now a complete bezel would be quite expensive, and yes Z serials are non lug hole.

Hey void0r? Do your documents say that your Sub is a Z series. The series is the first letter of the serial number.

like the lugholes since it is no longer produced.
it does make changing the bracelet easier.
I've got the Expy II with lug holes and don't mind either way.
I do like the SEL (Solid End Link) though. Sleeker look and easier to clean

I actually don't have the papers since I bought this used. The AD told me its a year 2002 (if I remember correctly). Funny though, my Sub doesn't have the micro-etch crown at 6:00 that was supposedly introduced in 2002...

Thats great to know! For some reason I had in my head the bezel insert was much more than that!

Whew! I'm glad. I thought someone told you it was a Z when you bought it. A 2002 could be any serial number really. It could be an old stock that was sold new. You should be fine. The newest it could be with Lug Holes is an early Y. Don't know if the LEC was around in early 2002. It could have been sold new in 2002, but still be a K, P, etc. Regardless, it is a wonderful watch. I own the same.

I was confused by this at first as well. Void was responding to a question posed by poster Z-Sub, but it looked like he thought his Sub was a Z-serial with lug holes. That would make it unique, indeed.

LOL yeah, I was responding to Z-Sub, but I have no idea if my Sub is a Z series.
