Nervous wearing your timepiece?

Out of curiosity, how many wear their watch all the time no matter what? The reason I ask is because as much as I would prefer to wear my new Daytona, I have to travel into the "hood" a lot for work...

I just don't think it's the smartest to wear a watch that demands so much attention... In saying that, maybe I'll have to look for a cheaper wrist watch that I will not care much about what happens to it...

I generally don't think about it.

If there's any question, or I want to be understated, unusually go with 16610 or IWC Mark XVII.

Daytona may be attracting attention.

Edit: yes, use this as an opportunity to get another watch :)

I just bought my very first watch. Datejust with fluted bezel with diamonds on the face. I'm an ER nurse in a not so great area. I get off at 3am and we have armed security and off duty police officers all the time. If I get concerned when leaving, someone will walk me out.

If you are too nervous to wear it, then what's the point of owning it?

Might have to get yourself some Street Creds to go with that Daytona, before entering... "The Hood".

I wear my watches almost everywhere I go. When in doubt about wearing your watch to any place play it safe and wear something cheap.

I'd be concerned if the job required extensive walking through the 'hood' during various hours of the day/evening.

if/when possible, park close to the place of business or as you mentioned earlier, consider a less expensive watch for the times you will be passing through these areas.

Insure your watch and should be fine. I don't wear any piece containing gold if I go to a place I'm not too certain about.

Yeah, I am a corporate trainer for a wireless company and given our demo and target customer, we have a lot of our stores in the shit. I have never been in a store when it was robbed, but there have been plenty of times that shit hit the fan 30 min before I got there or 30 mins after.

It can be pretty concerning driving into the middle of Englewood, K-Town, or Jeffery Manor... and you see heard's of people running, fighting, and acting the fool on the reg... not to mention gun shots and other non-sense because people just do not know how to act. I am in the car and most I have to walk is less than a block... but, I am definitely out of place in these areas.

I can enjoy the watch on weekends, office days, and when I am in meetings/class room setting... just not sure about wearing it into the field... eh, we will see.

I wear my PM watches all the time but I practice situational awareness. Besides some of the less savory characters in the bad areas around me wear more gold than me.

Does a daytona really demand so much attention? And is the 'hood' really as dangerous as you describe? Or is it all in your mind?

By all means, if you really work in a dangerous area, then leave your stuff at home. But what exactly is 'the 'hood' and how much attention does your Daytona really attract? Last time I read a topic like this, someone wasn't quite sure he could wear his Rolex in the UK...catch my drift?

Point being, it's difficult to be clueless about your thinly veiled racism. Please enjoy your 10k watch, big shot.

The only attention is mainly in the wearers head, most will not care or even look no matter what watch you were wearing. Although if you have a sign on your forehead look I am wearing a Rolex then you might get the attention you talk about in your post.If you feel that way about your watch its going to give you grief and worry when you wear it,got to ask myself why did you buy a Rolex watch in the first place if not to wear.

I sometimes have thoughts about getting my watch stolen or someone noticing it... THEN I realize how RARE it is that actually notices your watch.

I think we members feel that everyone looks at watches the same way we do... but the fact is people rarely notice you have on a Rolex. Honestly, if my watch ever got stolen I feel it would just be part of being robbed and not the main attraction.

Sorry for being so thick, so stupid and obviously unintelligent.............which I am not.

But those of us who haven't heard of the phrase, what is it?

I tried to research just "The Hood" and all I got was the bad guy from Thunderbirds

I guess that it is an area of a town or city.
