I am looking at a 1966 1675 that has a 16750 case back. Did Rolex put 16750 case backs on 1675s during service?

Assuming the rest of the watch is correct, how does an incorrect case back impact value?

I know that the watch will never be the most desirable example, I am just trying to figure if I should I even consider buying.

Everything has a price IMHO if the watch is a 3-4K beater full of mixed match parts it doesn't make much difference. If it's a mint gilt full set 1675 then I would say the value of a 66 caseback is around $500-$1000 and the value of the 16750 $3-$600 so you would figure this in.

It has a MK1 Long E with very little patina, fat case, service insert, and 68 rivet bracelet.

I am sure that members have seen the watch.

I have to say I think in the long run it may bother you unless you get the watch at a price that you simply can't refuse. No one really looks at the inside of the caseback during their ownership but the fact that it is in your mind I know would bother me. Some make purchases like this with the hopes for a correct period era caseback to be found but its not as easy as it sounds. As you know if you ever wanted to sell, a lot of people will have the same concerns you do with the value so it might be challenging. Best wishes buddy, let me know how it goes. Cheers.

David, thanks for those thoughts. I would only buy at a price that takes into account the incorrect caseback, so if I ever do sell, I will not take a bath.

I do agree, not having it be 100% correct may irk me, but it may not. I will have to see.

Will let you know what I decide on doing.

it wouldn't bother me in the slightest! For all I know I could have incorrect casebacks on all my watches as they have only ever been opened by my watchmaker and I've never been around when he's done the work and to be honest it's never occurred to me to ask!!
