Interesting, I think I can go better to RSC and ask what the exact production year is because I have no idea how to open the backside of the watch.

If you are asking about case back stamps, the 1.4 million range are usually found with late 1965 through 1966 case backs.

1966.
Case back date codes may have a slightly misleading "spread." Haywood

The lists you find on the internet are all compiled by collectors. The dates used for compiling the lists are: 1. date on original receipt 2. date on caseback(up until -72 approximately) 3. date on clasp on original bracelet(not all years) Combine this with the knowledge of when specific models were introduced and you can make some rough estimates. Note that bracelet and caseback dates can be years off. Cases, casebacks and bracelets were made in batches and some watches could sit for years at a reseller until sold. So this is not exact, when a specific watch was assembled from its parts is something Rolex themselves only knows(I assume they do). |

Prior to the emergence of this information, I did as many do and started to compile pages and pages (now up to 248 A4 sheets!) of watches that i come across. Such a massive database soon supports or destroys any scheme proposed by others. Haywood

Most comprehensive online is the Rolex Serial Number Project at VRF, which fortunately is freely shared here: www.vintagerolexforum.com

I have heard of it, but never any details about it. I was under the impression that the late Marcello might have had access to information like that for instance. If such information has been used in compiling the list here, then that's even better.
