The metal or the model?
I have an SS Sub Date and a TT DJ which are worn essentially on an every other day basis.
I find however that there are clear situations where one is more event appropriate than the other. For instance, after spending the day at the beach or on a boat, jet ski, etc... and, of course, wearing the Sub I might change to the DJ for dinner in slacks and a collar shirt. I wear a shirt and tie/jacket to work everyday and find either watch works with that but sometimes for meetings/presentations DJ is the clear choice. My question is do you guys think it's the metal, SS/gold(pm) or model that is more a delineating factor here? Personally I find TT/gold(pm), almost regardless of model (TT Sub, clearly ok without any shirt, gold iffy, IMO) with anything less than a collar shirt to be "out of place" while SS, again almost regardless of model, is much more all situation appropriate but maybe not "dressy enough" for some events. Thoughts on whether it is in fact the metal or the model that primarily determines what's "right" in these situations? |

Wear what you like and what you are comfortable wearing. Any Rolex can work in almost any situation. This is the beauty of the oyster collection

Yeah I wear a SS DJ daily and it goes with anything. I would say the gold dresses your DJ up a lot.
Both are beautiful pieces! |

My Blnr does great for a daily wear, but I had the first opportunity to wear it with a suit last weekend and I loved it.

We're at a point where any Rolex works in just about every situation (outside of something like white tie, which even some still debate.)
I work in an area of television production that is pretty casual, and I'm a casual guy, but I wear my 16610 in all scenarios. That's why I no longer have a DateJust, and I never wear my Aqua Terra, which I'll eventually sell. I just identify with the Sub Date, so I don't need anything else. |

I wear PM models with casual clothes, sweatpants, gym clothes, etc. It's about the person for the most part, not the watch.

I'd like to wear my sub to my brother's wedding as it is a weekend away from home and the sub would be great for the whole time. Just not sure if it's a great piece for the best man to wear with a tux....

I too have a sub date and TT DJ. I think both look appropriate in most anything. I like to wear the DJ with shorts and a polo shirt. I wear the sub with a tuxedo. The sub looks pretty good with shorts and a polo too. I just never wear the DJ on the boat or when working in the yard.
You've got two iconic Rolexes there. It's nice to get up in the morning and choose one, and then later in the day swap it for the other. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think each watch gives off a certain vibe and I think it has more to do with the model rather than the metal. Metal does influence but I think the model makes a bigger difference.

I like to wear my gold DJ with jeans because it's on a strap. I wear stainless or TT in all given situations.

It's a combination of both for me. Each model has its own design aesthetic, so some look better in formal settings while others look better on the boat. However, I think the yellow gold sub or GMT look great with a suit or dinner jacket, so the material is also a factor.

A lot of people come to this forum with few watches and many rules and hopefully leave here with many watches and few rules.
