Others will disagree and find it overkill, but spend $40 on an ultrasonic cleaner like I use and those bracelets will get cleaned just like they do in the RSC.

Or take it to your AD and have them remove the bracelet and clean it ultrasonically.

Be advised that if you do purchase your own cleaner, either remove the bracelet or hold the head of the watch above the liquid surface so that it does not get vibrated.

After that, weekly washing with liquid hand soap, a soft toothbrush and water will keep it looking good! Grit in links contributes to premature wear. Although our friend Jocke wears his until they look pretty rough, then do this:

Good catch Dave. I shouldn't assume that someone wouldn't just drop the whole watch in the tank.

Matt,
This has come up time and time again and you wouldn't believe the amount of people who think it is perfectly OK to put the whole watch in ultra-sonic cleaner .
You can't tell them either

Just a toothbrush and some liquid hand soap will work wonders. It's cheap and keeps your watch looking good.

Actually, that's a good thing. It shows that more and more folks are joining TRF or joined TRF a while back but have not been very active. In either case, they know where to come for sound advice about care of their Rolexes. I've owned a Rolex since 1971, but until I joined TRF just over a month ago, I had been using dish washing liquid instead of liquid hand soap.

Take the bracelet off the watch and boil it in a very small amount of detergent on the gas cooker.........Be sure to use a stainless steel pan with a thick copper bottom......

And then keep yourself cleaner.....

I am being 100% sincere with this....try Scrubbing Bubbles, just take the bracelet off the watch head first. The stuff works great and it leaves the bracelet feeling really clean.

Dave, I just realized you are in the UK and I do not think Scrubbing Bubbles is available there, but for the folks in the states, for $3.00 you CANNOT go wrong with this stuff!

Repitition of information can appear tedious, however the answer is always forthcoming on TRF.

Of course he didn't say he was pouring Perrier gently over the bracelet, he said he was "scrubbing it." If it's that filthy, maybe he needs advice other than what he's currently doing.

No one ever conducts a search when they come here, we just have to accept that. The " Are SS Daytonas hard to get?" threads test my restraint.

Matt,

Why not come up with two new icons.
One that describes your reaction to these old recurring questions and another that you can use when replying to posts on those early pre-coffee mornings.

Good point, if there are other fairly recent threads on the topic. To some extent, though, it reminds me of the graduate teaching assistant who asked the economics professor why he gave the same exam every year. Didn't the students know what the questions would be? Son, the professor replied, of course they know what the questions will be. But in economics we keep changing the answers!
