My first Rolex ....and its keeping perfect time?!

Hello Everyone,

A long time lurker on this forum and admirer of Rolex timepieces but finally took the plunge last week and purchased my first Rolex ( and first automatic watch) a Sub C 114060. The watch is exceeding my expectations and is perfect in every way.

I went through the usual process of trying to decide which ref to go for and originally planned on the SD4K but after trying the watch on I found it sat a bit higher on my wrist than I liked. The Sub was an obvious alternative and like many others I found the lack of cyclops and symmetry of the 114060 very appealing although a date feature is useful.

My bracelet set up ( 7 inch wrist) is 5.5 links on the 12 side ( 1/2 link in the clasp) and 5 on the 6 side. The clasp is perfectly centred on my wrist however the glidelock only has 2mm of adjustment to tighten should I need it- almost the full glidelock to extend.

If I remove the half link on the 12 side it looks like my glidelock will be centred but will this change the clasp centering on my wrist?

My final surprise was the accuracy of the watch. I am aware of the COSC parameters and was fully expecting the watch to lose or gain a few seconds daily. I set the time 5 days ago to an online clock and rechecked it today on the same site and my watch is keeping perfect time- not one second lost or gained. Is this fairly normal or unusual for a new Rolex ?

Congrats on your purchase. I purchased a 114060 in Oct of 2014 and it has essentially kept perfect time. Enjoy!

Congratulations...good choice.

Sometimes they keep perfect time from the off, sometimes they don't. Don't worry if it goes a few seconds out.

Congrats on a great watch. As far as keeping time, it doesn't get any better than yours.

My last new one loses 1/2 second per day.

Congratulations!

Fitting your bracelet is a bit of an exercise in trial and error. At a certain point, there's nothing left to do but try some different combinations of link arrangements and clasp adjustments until you find that "Goldilocks" fit.

I had to tinker with my GMT a bit to get it where I feel is best, and I think the larger or heavier the watch, the more critical the fit becomes.

Congrats...not that normal and I would advise not doing that too often or once it starts running 2 seconds per day fast or slow, it will drive you nuts.

Thanks for all of the comments! My issue now is I seem to be experiencing a desire to buy a BLNR and Explorer to compliment this one😬!! That is not going to happen any time soon - I found it hard to justify one Rolex let alone several and my wife would divorce me.... but maybe over time I will acquire another.

Great choice on the modern classic. Excellent first Rolex for sure and I'm not surprised @ the accuracy as all my new Rolex has been ridiculous accurate out the box so far. All +-1 over weeks for the most part. Really amazing.

Congrats...a real classic, and a beauty, too.

I wouldn't mess with the glide lock...sounds like it fits good and that's what counts. Odds are you are going to loosen it way more than tighten, so leave it be and see how it does. You can always take that half link out down the road.

As far as time keeping goes, that is phenomenal. But, most of the newer watches I've bought recently are outstanding timekeepers.

Congratulations on a real modern classic! Happy to hear it's keeping excellent time too

I'd leave the bracelet just the way you've got it.

I'm going to take the advice and leave the bracelet as is. As for buying my wife one.......no chance 😀! She doesn't care for watches and wouldn't appreciate it unless it was literally covered in diamonds and that's not going to happen! When I showed her my new watch she said it was ' exactly the same ' as my 6 year old Seamaster so what was the point in buying it ... .....which got me thinking......I could probably get away with buying an Explorer with black dial without telling her and I'm sure I could rotate watches and she would never notice - in fact I'm positive she wouldn't . Food for thought!!!!

Not so!! I was a member of a car forum and when I sold that car after 12 months I lost the equivalent to a decent Rolex.....I reckon TRF may turn out to be one of the cheapest forums on the Internet as if I decide to sell a watch I will not lose that much......I'm trying to convince myself here bare with me!

Congrats with your watch. It is amazing that after 5 days watch is so accurate. However, I really doubt that is even possible for mechanical watch. My current Tissot quartz watch accuracy is 0.5 s /day. I suggest you to use Twixt app for watch accuracy measurement.

Next week I will be buying my first Rolex. Currently reading almost all new threads in a forum :) Please update this thread after few days. It is really very interesting whether accuracy of watch will remain the same after some time.
