Another Explorer-dial Submariner...

http://www.gardinerhoulgate.co.uk/Ca...6/lot0050.html

At auction in the next few minutes. I think the dial is genuine, let's see if bidders agree (though that's not a definitive measure by any means!)

Sold for £160,000 plus 24% = £198,400.

I had put down my pre-booked telephone line quite a few bids earlier!

Congratulations, I believe, to its new owner.

What, compared with 30% at many others?

<sigh>

Lovely watches. Came across your images while I was doing my homework before the auction.

No, the auction one was a different dial, SWISS only, all gilt text.....and a sheaf of original papers / provenance from its ex-RAF first owner's family.

Edit to add picture :

Very, very rare and special watches.

Search on here, I think I have a ultra rare 1962 submariner

Last year a local guy listed his uncles 369 sub,he was overloaded with offers from members on here, not the watch in my pics, that's mine, I have also had lots of offers,

If it helps I know he sold it last May to a collector who came in from the first Phillips auction last May on his way back to the U.S., $200.000

Mikes uncles was a full set with the original sales receipt for £64 & ten shilling, we found it amusing as his uncle negotiated the ten shillings off so it cost £64 in 1964

I think it's the same variant HM has posted

You told me you didn't buy that after all my help ?

The ' I think I have an ultra rare sub' was again a different variety , one line silver one line gold

The GH did silly money , much much more in fact than one could buy the same watch from a retailer from ( in fact one if the most expensive retailers there is ) last week, which makes no sense , but like the car markets 12 mths ago there's a lot more going on in auction sales like this than just someone wanting a watch.
