It's a nice vintage 10kt precision from the 40's in guessing. Nice little score, not a watch that's seen all too often. The 31 world records helps date it but I can't remember when it started and when they changed it.

One should never regret buying a Rolex, wear her in good health. I'd love to find a precision like that some day.

It's all relative, obviously it won't bring what a 38mm cased Rolex dress watch would, but it's still desirable.

If you paid more than £800 you shouldn't have.

If you like it then 900 quid is fine. The dial looks all original, and if it keeps good time, then I'd be happy with that.

Is that a name and date inscribed on the outside of the case back?

That might give you something to work with regarding provenance or age, if there's a date and an unusual/identifiable name on there. Otherwise, watches like this (older, smaller, non-oyster) are not really collectible. On another day you might have paid half that price for it if you got lucky on ebay, or a couple of hundred more.
