New Daytona
I hope this is safe to post in the vintage section because I really don't want to be strung up. For the last four years or so I have really been anticipating the release of a black bezel Daytona. I've seen many photoshopped versions which have had me drooling. As the new arrival posts have started to filter in I have not really shared the enthusiasm that is on full flow in the general section. We waited for such a long time for a basic Daytona with a ceramic bezel slapped on it. I find it pretty disappointing. I would have loved a thinner ceramic made to mimic the Bakelite of the 6263 or maybe some Paul Newmanesque numbers on the subdials. I know Rolex is not into heritage models but it would sure have knocked it out of the park for me. I do think it is the best modern intro that we have seen in many years and they will probably sell a ton. I guess it's possible to PVD your SS bezel on a lower priced (now) SS Daytona an achieve almost the same effect (and reversible as well). I'm wondering what my vintage brethren are thinking but I should probably brace myself for the reaction. I'm still allowed my own personal opinion right? Right? Here's a post that I found on Instagram this morning which got me thinking. Maybe a little overdone but, as much as I love "original", I find it interesting.
