New acquisition 1966 Tudor 7996 - recommend me a UK Watchmaker.

Having been an Omega collector for a good few years, I've flirted with the idea of Rolex/Tudor, but as yet not found anything that really tickled my fancy, and that I could afford.

Step in a little 7996 Prince Oysterdate.

So incredibly easy wearing, amazed by the condition of the dial (looks to be original given the way the lume has degraded, and the lettering looks like others in period), and how well made it feels.

Could do with a service... can anyone recommend a good Rolex/Tudor watchmaker in the UK?

Cheers

Chris

Try Graham at Superlative Time in West London and mention Lee.

If you want another option, I have just had my 1603 serviced at Watch Doctors, Tring, Herts. Google and you will get their site.

Thanks Ancientmariner. :)

The 7996 is knocking a little... which I'm taking as a worn bearing in the rotor... or a worn rotor itself.

Talking to Graham, if it is the rotor, the part may no longer be available - but the generic ETA one is... then it becomes a choice between having a properly working watch, or a "correct" one. hmm.

Less that 2 days of ownership, and it's going back to the seller.

The complete crown, indulging tube unscrews from the case, and there's a loud knocking coming from the rotor... not things that I want to pay to fix, given that it was sold as "in good working order".

Refund is already with me, watch just needs to be posted back.

Back to the drawing board...

What a shame. She was a beauty!

A similar thing happened to me with my first Tudor Jumbo. Spent another two years locating its replacement (below), as its beauty had smitten me badly. Good luck with the next one!
