DD in the water

Im about to go to palm springs with my girlfriend. Staying at the Parker Hotel. Well be at the pool pretty much the entire time. I usually wear my PAM when dealing with water activities.

I wanted to wear my DD 118238 to the pool. Does anyone else go swimming with there DD. Also i bought it used from DavidSW about 5 months. Its an F series (2003). Do i need to get it pressure tested? Do the gaskets need to be changed ever so often? I don't want to get into the pool and see that water is in my case.

Yeah, I would get it pressure tested to be on the safe side.

I swim weekly with mine in summertime.. No issues for me.. Rinse it thoroughly when done to flush out chlorine maybe

How much does it usually cost to get a watch pressure tested.

I don't think buying it from David has any bearing on the water resistance.

I would get it tested just to be sure, like any watch of that age.

It's prob just fine. A pressure test can't hurt.

Why i mentioned that was because maybe someone knows if he does a full service on all of his watches before he sells them or not. To prevent people sending him back watches due to malfunctions.

I can see someone like him doing full services at his cost for service to prevent watches being sent back and forth.

You are staying at the Parker Hotel, very nice place by the way, and you are asking how much a pressure test costs?

I would definitely get it tested before going in that pool. Hang the expense.

My watchmaker doesn't charge me to do a 10 atm test. But he also has done about a dozen overhauls for me in the past 5 years.
A walk-in customer could expect $25 charge as a fair cost.

lol.

I dont want to pay $490 for a guy to say he cant pressure test it unless you does a full service on it.

Just went to ABC watch work charged me $600 for a service and then wanted to charge me $75 to polish it. Its not the money aspect more of the fact they would charge to get it polished even though they did the full service of the watch.

I would not wear my DD in the pool. Is it safe? Probably, but it's not a bad idea to have it checked out first. I just weight the cost/benefit and it just doesn't square up for me. My Seamaster, on the other hand, is the perfect pool partner.

Yeah, right! If he did, you can be darn sure he'd say so - in big bold letters - in every listing. Oh yeah, and charge at least $500 more for each watch.

I know what you mean, but what's the point of having an awesome watch like a DD if you don't wear it on a weekend trip with the girlfriend?

Better to have the watch pressure tested, then strap it to your wrist for the entire weekend rather than leaving it unattended in the room. Even if you use the small safes provided in most nice hotels, I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving it behind.

OK for $25 i guess ill just get it tested so i can wear it the whole time. Rather just bring my DD then bring a water watch either my GMT or PAM and having my DD for only at night.

Wish i had my AP already. Would be bring that for sure if i had one. Still debating on which AP or should i just go straight for a YG sub.

It's cheap enough to just get tested. The AD near me does it for free. The independent charges $30 or so bucks. Get it done for peace of mind

There is a Rolex AD in Palm Desert that has a full service facility. (Leeds and Sons????) Call them they may be able to do it. They can service the watch or just do a pressure check I would think.

As long as you feel secure regarding your watch's service interval, the DD can easily handle a pool.

My rule is any watch that goes below a few feet needs a rating of 200m or greater and gets pressure tested every year. For swimming, 100m or greater rating and pressure test every 24 months. Grit, body chemicals, chlorine, salt, etc. all eventually degrade seals and hands moving under water add dynamic pressure hence the "overkill"
