Tourneau Atlanta
Mrs Van D is in Atlanta so I asked her to check out Tourneau if she was passing to get a handle on some prices.
She walked in, all the staff were up in one corner and she might as well have been invisible. She had to go and approach one of them to get any help. Anyhoo, she asked who could help with Panerai and when she then told the guy the references that she was interested in, he had absolutely no clue what they were. Shocking product knowledge and dreadful service. She left.

That's a shame. I was in the Tourneau store in the mall in Pentagon City in February and they were pretty nice. Tried on quite a few pieces. That's where I got the itch for the BLRO.
Certainly no way to treat a customer.

I did warn her that the service might be poor given the experiences that some members on here have had at various Tourneau stores throughout the US.
I'm interested in the prices of a couple of Panerai references but after that display, I think I'll stick to Singapore (which is cheaper than the UK and discounts are available). Not impressed and neither of the Van Ds will entertain Tourneau again

That particular Tourneau is awful and always has been. I was in there one time and a guy walked in who was wearing an AP and the sales associate asked him when he was "going to start wearing a real watch" and tried to get him to look at Bremont and Breitling lol

Just came from Tourneau in Chicago and tried to buy a day date II. Absolutely no discount. They wouldn't budge. So I walked out.

First time I went to that tourneau, I had the same unvisible feeling. Ignored by the first guy near the door, made eye contact with another fellow near the back and said I needed my bracelet resized... Turned out the guy I was talking to was another customer

I've had a mixed bag at that location. I will say the sales team is poorly trained in my experience.
Had one of the "senior" reps try to convince me the center links on a SS Super Jubilee bracelet were WG.... Ended up walking out with a Tudor though....tried to haggle, but when I was walking out the manager mysteriously emerged with a $500 coupon that was expired. Handed over my CC and done deal.

What's just as bad as that store is the crazy people that frequent that mall. Freak show and not safe.

I'm always curious why people think a discount is in order Do you have haggle over your suits, shoes, ties, belts, golf clubs, computers, food, gas, car, electric bill, cable bill, car insurance, health insurance, cell phone bill

Because a discount is always in order, and if you don't ask you don't receive. I don't understand why someone wouldn't spend 30 seconds asking the question if they stand to gain several hundred dollars. Let me guess, you're not in business are you? And by the way, I have negotiated almost all the items you've listed above, even from major retailers. All you do is ask. The worst case scenario is that the seller says no.

There's a line of ADs around the block that would happily give you 20-25% even if you aren't a customer. Do you seriously not haggle on a car purchase? |

Yes on all the items in bold. I wouldn't consider any Rolex at MSRP. The AD has plenty of room to negotiate. An AD that won't budge on a PM watch is a bit out of touch IMO.

I have successfully haggled/renegotiated all those in bold. I don't have or need health insurance. I always ask for a discount on watches or jewellery and have always got a discount or merchandise. On my computer I got a discount from Apple for being in the armed forces. (Just before I left) but just out of interest, Apple has a Government employee scheme here and the US that gives a discount, well worth a Google.

Tourneau is the car max of Swiss watch stores. Use it as an opportunity to try a wide range and then buy elsewhere.

I think the only items on that list that I have not negotiated are ties and belts, only because the price point is too low.

After reading all the experiences people have had with Torneau I doubt I will be spending any time or money in any of their stores. If the place can't muster up at least as much customer service as a McDonalds crew kid at 4 am in the drive through, there's not much point in wasting any time there. |

I've worked with that Tourneu for years and have always had a good experience. They do have some turnover on their staff but it seems like at least half have been there for ever and are quite knowledgable.
As a general rule I don't think their market is the educated watch shopper. They cater more to those who come in on a whim and grab something pretty at full price. |

I've had poor experiences with about every AD I've visited - not every time, but each one near me has given me a reason to not want to go back eventually- except for Govberg in Ardmore, PA.

Agreed -- Govberg is a good shop. When I was an undergraduate at Wharton, I bought a black dial TOG from their Walnut Street location. Even though I made just one relatively small purchase, they sent me a hand-written Christmas card for the next 2 years and occasionally emailed me when they had interesting pre-owned pieces for sale

I'll go to the Atlanta store - it's not that bad. I've had good salespeople and average. Sometimes I just get ignored until I ask to see something. That's fine with me, most of the time I'm just looking.
Gotta remember, turnover is high and it's hard to make sales when all their watches are available on the gray market for less. They are really looking for someone wealthy and emotional. Wealthy to pay and emotional to pay too much.:) |
