Flip my 116520 for 15400. Mistake?

Lately, I've been having the urge of flipping my Daytona for a black AP 15400.

There's a fellow who's willing to do the trade with me provided I add $1,200 on top.

I would say both watches are in good condition and both come with papers and boxes.

1. Daytona for AP?
2. Is it a good deal?

Thoughts and reasons are highly appreciated. Thanks

2 different watches. AP is niçe but will lose value. Only if you need to trade to have AP.
Better solution is saving money and buy AP.later at a very good price.

That is a decent price to be into an AP 15400 for. I would personally do that deal in a second.

Now if we are talking a 500c, no, I would absolutely never do that deal. (I know we are not talking that watch by the tread title).

Well, since you did ask for opinions...

The trade value seems fair, just be sure you're OK with getting something that obviously has a case and dial that are way too big for the movement, and seems to wear more like a manacle than a wristwatch. 15400s scuff easily, too. :D

Personally, I'd pass on that and keep my eye out for a nice 15300, or spend the worthwhile extra for a 15202.

i'd instead trade your explorer and tudor towards either a 15400 or 15300 (daytona + LVc + AP RO = great trio!).

You are getting fair value for your Daytona, so if you feel like trying the AP – Go for it. I would have also done the same in a heartbeat a few years back, just for the sake of trying it out… There are so many great watches out there.

I would not do this especially after being asked to add cash to the deal

Agreed, financially it's a good deal. Only the OP can know if he wants to do it though. I certainly would!

Assuming both watches in great condition, similar age and warranty status, sounds fair on financial front.

Sounds like an AP itch you need to scratch. With the Daytona 116520 being discontinued it may not be so simple to go back to one without paying a premium. If you don't wear it or think you'd miss it, then do the deal. Otherwise, look to the suggestion to move the Exp and Tudor to fund a 15400 or 15300...and if you can stretch it, the 15202.

I'd definitely do the deal but I also prefer the diver which I'll now wear today.

I actually flipped a black dial daytona for a white dial 15400. I'm VERY happy with the trade. Personally, I think the size is fantastic.

I don't see the 15400 prices moving around much nor do I expect 116520 prices moving around a lot, but that's just me.

OP - I have owned the 116520 and 15400 simultaneously, ended up keeping the 15400...

I do have the 116550 on order, however.

Daytona go anywhere between 9k-10k adding $1200 would put you at 10.2k-11.2k which both are below the going rates for the 15400. So if you really like the AP i would say do it.

Same with me. Ended up keeping the 15400 (black) with a white 116500 on order.

It's a fair deal. Both parties are getting trade value imho.

Is the AP still under warranty? Ideally it would be even if for a short period in case any problems arise.

I would pull the trigger as I prefer the 15400 to the 116520.

To the OP, I say go for it. I tried on the "old" Daytona a few times and just didn't do it for me. Too small and hard to read anything on that dial. I did have a silver dial 15400, I traded for a diver. The 5400 is a beautiful watch, just didn't get enough wrist time. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go AP.
