Why so many Black Daytona C 116500?
Is it my imagination or does it seem like the majority of the incomings have been the black dial version? Anybody have any feedback on why this is when the white dial version seem to be choice by many on this forum?

Black dials are easier to get right now. The first whites are reserved for VIP customer. something along those lines is my guess .....because white is a 75% favorite in recent forum polls even tho the black is growing on many.

I don't think either are easy to get right now thus the substantial premiums in the secondary market. I can tell you regardless of polls as for now looks like majority of owners here chose black including me. I could have had either and will likely own both but chose black first. I liked the white more at first but then the black got to me and I changed my choice to black. I blame the pictures here and on IG for that by the way! My AD also got 2 in and one was white and one was black. He will get 2 more in before year end and again one will be white and one black. So for the polls they are meaningless as they poll which one people prefer and that isn't a poll of actual owners nor people certain to get one any time soon. The only thing that really matters is the number of owners here and looks like black outnumbers the white when looking at the 116500 owners thread.

I, too, initially preferred the white, but man the black has really grown on me. If the white and black were side by side and I could have my choice...I don't know.
I would probably have to do an emergency shout out to my TRF peeps. |

I don't think it's your imagination at all. White was hyped. Many VIP likely followed the hype. Many others were smart not to pass on the first available (black).
Can't say I blame them. I would too.

Or perhaps the people that purchased black are the ones posting images?

IMO I think Rolex has initially shipped out more black dials than white dials. I have 2 AD's that I work with and they have both received the black dial 116500 only. I don't think any are just sitting around when the demand is so high right now for the Daytona C.

I want the white right now, but the black is certainly growing on me and much better than I had expected to look.

It's almost as if Rolex is acting as if if this was two entirely different watches.
Seems they are releasing the "less-desireable" black dial first, letting the buzz wear off...then when it has, gas on with the white dial! New buzz! Maybe Rolex felt that they would cause unwanted competition between the two? Who knows? I didn't get the memo

PS other AD here got white no black and are waiting for their first pre-sold black. Both have long wait lists of each for what it's worth.

I think they're both awesome and people will buy whatever color they get first. The said, I think it's obvious black is more prevalent.

But they weren't and made me wait a few extra weeks until the black I ordered came in. And was I happy how it turned out... |

Have you seen a black dial up close and personal? You wouldn't need to ask the question. :-)

On my wrist at AD, not a Basel demo show model. That's the reason I asked, I have yet to see a white dial at an AD or in the wild.

I asked at the LK boutique in Sydney (Australia's largest AD) and they informed me it was a 3 year wait on the white dial and 5 years on the black dial. This is based off their waiting list and combined with expected shipment dates from Rolex. They indicated next shipment would contain one SS Daytona and would likely be mid next year, if you can believe that. Amazing stuff

I love it.
Rolex goes mad and puts out new steel Daytonas in...wait for it....black and white - again. And the fervor of black Vs white reboots. I'm not hating but man...what if they made a Red one and threw it in the mix. 🙄 I'll get me coat. |

I personally think it's the better of the two colors. I am not sure if I would buy one, owning the platona, but if I did, it would be black!

I would wear either and be happy. I would probably lean towards the black as the Platona is my lighter colored dial version already and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

All the 116500's on this forum are still such a small survey of what is really out there. I know one AD that received 1 of each and one AD that received only 1 white. Taking with the owners of these AD's, it sounds like Rolex is producing in equal amounts. I prefer the black, but if the phone rang tomorrow I would immediately buy and wear the white. Regardless of how allotted, they will sell every single one for the unforeseeable future.

At this point, the forum has seen mostly black dials, but we have no evidence that the white is more exclusive/desirable/hard-to-attain than the black

What we see here might not be the "reality" on the wild as not every Rolex owner active on the forums....... I haven't seen neither on the wild

I own the Black, and it's by far my favorite Rolex, and watch owned of any type. What's odd, is that I always felt the Daytona was too small for my 8" wrist. Love this piece!
Having said that, I chatted with my AD (he has two stores) and he mentioned he's only received the two (one white and one black) so far. He said he expects a few more by years end, and he expects he'll receive them as one of each color, but could not guaranty that. I called another AD not that far from me and asked about the Daytona as well. They mentioned that they hadn't received any but were being told they would soon. They weren't sure if they'd receive one, two, and or what dial color combination. They said they weren't taking names for a waiting list, as it had grown too long. Not that I want another, I was just curious. Cheers, Joe |
