Gorgeous 1675, Mark 1 Long E INCOMING!
Last week I finally received this gorgeous 1675. It's late a 2.85 serial no with the caseback marked II 71, featuring a Mark 1, Long E dial. The patina on this is just what I wanted, an eye-popping dark yellow. I felt lucky not just to get this at a very fair price, but with all the things I wanted - a period correct jubilee (also stamped 71) and a nice faded fat font insert. The blue on the insert turns into different shades depending on the nature of the light - often seeming grey but mostly retaining a dark, ash blue hue with the red having turned into a stunning pink salmon.
Most of all, it's the clean dial with the dark patina that won me over. Thank you to the kind, helpful folk of TRF who dispensed invaluable advice in my search and were happy to have a chat or talk about all the pieces that I was evaluating. But enough talk, here are some pics including one with the grail Maxi 5513 that I picked up 6 months ago. And I think I'm done with vintage...for now. |

Stunning combination of vintage S/S!
I'm partial to the 1675 though. Love the mk1. Sweet. |

Thank you everyone...I'm just loving the ownership of this.
I also want to ask about the insert that this came with. I love it, it looks great but I'd also like for the 1675 to be distinct from my submariner so the red is often seemingly "barely there" while the blue is more greyish. So I'm also on the lookout for a period correct insert with the colours still intact having faded to a darker matte shade, rather than the ghost that i have. Something like these below. What is the general consensus? Leave the insert or get a second one like these pics below to swap out from time to time? |

What a GREAT pair! Fortunately, you have two wrists, no decision necessary.
