Business travel with Apple products

Seems there are a LOT of business travelers on the forum. My question involves the number of devices you bring along with you. I have vested myself in Apple products, so am not soliciting other platform options.

For the last year, my travel computer has been the new 12" MacBook (it has worked out great, three month-long trips to the Middle East). The iPhone goes everywhere, of course. It seems to me that should be sufficient, but I always seem to want to bring an iPad as well (movies, reader, etc).

My minimalist traveler instinct says this is excessive. Has my inner geek gotten the better or have any of you gone down this path?

Again, not looking for options involving other platforms. Thanks for any inputs.

I usually take my macbook air (wife and I both own one), but we are thinking of switching to the MacBooks, which are almost as light and have more processing power. I want one that easily fits into a knapsack.

Bringing the iPad on travels is indeed excessive, your macbook does everything the iPad does ......

I travel for work, and all I bring is my iPhone and computer.

I read a lot, but can't bring myself to switch to an electronic reader for books and magazines. I get my news/current events from my phone (except The Economist), but have to have a book in my hand for extended reading.

I'm a MacBook Pro guy. Your MacBook does not have an optical drive. Is that ever a problem for you, either traveling or at home?

Never.

I have a SuperDrive but never use it with the MacBook. For my home iMac, I used it to rip all our CDs into our music collection, but now it is gathering dust.

The MacBook is lighter than both 11" and 13" MBAs by 0.35 and 0.93 lbs, respectively. The MBAs have more processing power but, with the extra turbo boost option on the MacBook, it's not by much more.

I have the MacBook with 512GB hard drive and the upgraded m7 processor. It's incredibly light and more than powerful enough for what I want it for, which is working at home on reports and stuff. You wouldn't want one for video editing or anything power-heavy. It's also so thin that it could replace an iPad, depending on what you want it for.

Back to the OP, I carry my iPhone, iPod Touch 128GB and iPad Air on my travels. I don't carry my MacBook because I have to take my company laptop with all our files, software and Outlook installed. Fortunately, it's not much heavier than my MacBook so I'm ok with it but would prefer the MB if I had the choice. If I'm going somewhere that I don't have to worry about these things, I take my Bose mini link speaker for my hotel room too.

Generally, if I bring the MacBook I don't bring the iPad. A week with a MacBook and iPad is excessive, but a month with both isn't.

I also use the iPhone.

I take my iPhone's, an iPad and my MacBook Pro when traveling on business. I leave the MacBook pro at home when traveling on leisure.

I bring all three when traveling. I could read ebooks on the phone but I like the iPad for that.

For short trips I only take iPhone and IPad Air. If it was for two weeks or longer then I would also take my MacBook Air. I also always take a kindle with me.

I'm not a traveler for business, however I'm a little bit of an apple fan boiiiiiii. Im not afraid to say when I don't need an apple product after trying it..... Cough cough the watch (seems about 5 yrs behind where it should be.).

Anyway I love the new MacBook Pro. I wish I had more reasons to use it.

Between the pro and my phone, I don't need any of the other products I have lol.

Two Iphones (work and personal)
cablas and adapters
Battery pack(s) with a no name five way cable that only charges so without USB functionality
Tablet with separate keyboard, tablet is a Lenovo with full HD screen and real-life 12-13 hrs battery life in normal use and 7-8 hrs watching movies and skyping - still lusting for an Ipad:) though;

Music is on tablet and phones, e-books and kids movies on the the tablet and I use a few large pendrives for movies.

When away for work I also carry my companies HP probook with an additional 1TB USB3 drive with movies and series.

I found that using these ziplock bags is ideal for storing pendrives, cables and other stuff.

I'm all Apple here as well. Freebies from work and the Mrs old phone so none have cost me anything.
Phone,iPod touch and my iPad all go out to the rig with me every three weeks. Phone gets switched off when I arrive.
Use my touch on breaks then my iPad in my cabin.

Great bits of kit that simply always work.

Indeed, this thread does not appear to support the assertion that the laptop in general is soon to be obsolete.
