18k Oyster Perpetual Models w/ a 20mm wide bracelet
Been trying to sort all this out on my own, but figured I'd come ask for some help from the experts.
I really love the classic clean look of the OP's, so I'm starting with this list: Oyster Perpetual 1002, 1004, 1005, 1006, 1007, 1008, 1010, 1014, 1018, 1023, 1024, 1025, 1030, 1038, 1500, 1501, 1565, 5500, 6085, 6103, 6177, 6202, 6284, 6518, 6532, 6546, 6548, 6549, 6551, 6552, 6556, 6564, 6565, 6567, 6569, 6580, 6582, 6584, 6590, 6605, 6623, 6634, 65718, 14203, 14203M, 14208, 14208M, 14233, 14238, 114300, 116000, 116034, 177200,177210, 177234 I want 18k gold, so I think that limits me to the following: 1008, 1018, 1038, 6518, 6548, 65718, 14208, 14208M, and 14238. I want sapphire crystal, so I think that leaves me with the 65718, 14208, 14208M, and 14238. Not sure about the 65718. Now, I'm not a fan of the OP bracelet, but the sizing of the OP bracelet model 70200, leads me to believe I would need a 20mm wide band if I wanted to replace it. All that being said, can anyone confirm that any of 65718, 14208, 14208M, or 14238, would be compatible with a 20mm wide Rolex President Gold Strap Bracelet, say 83208 or 84208? (Not real sure between the difference of those 2.) I appreciate any assistance. Thank you. |

I also believe the 1013's were all made in the 60's and 70's, so I imagine that means no sapphire glass for me? Thanks again. |

Surely Rolex or someone makes sapphire for replacement? I found this on the internet. Not sure what it is made of? I too am looking for 1013 with gold bracelet.

Why do you want sapphire especially on a vintage watch?
And the link you posted is to a plexi Crystal |

I like the clearest strongest crystal there is with AR coating inside as well. Makes the whole watch face so clear in all light is why. Not trying to restore. More of a hot rodding approach.

Ref 1012 or 1013. Basically a 1600/8 or 1601/8 but without the date. I have a couple, they're nice, one on Jubilee, one on rivet Oyster, and my old RG 1012. No WG option as far as I've ever seen.
As for sapphire vs acrylic, the acrylic RSC put on one of my less-worn watches was so sharp I mistakenly thought it WAS sapphire for a little while. If I were replacing crystals on any of mine I'd go acrylic every time, new ones are just as clear and if you ever bash the watch face you'll thank your lucky stars for cracking/deforming acrylic over smashable fill-the-movement-with-broken-bits sapphire. Your watchmaker would certainly thank you. Good luck eh |

I agree with Pete, I don't think the 1018 came in 18k, I think the 1012 is the smooth bezel and the 1013 is the fluted bezel. Not a huge fan of changing acrylic over to anything else: it changes the overall look of the watch, to its detriment. If you don't mind the 34mm, there's the whole series of 646x and 65xx that's also got some examples cased in 14k that look very similar to the 18k (I honestly can't tell without looking at the hallmark!).

I've only ever seen a couple of 1012 in RG and I own one of them. But I don't think it's a type-of-gold designation, the difference between 1012 and 1013 is the bezel fluting, you should be able to find each model in each metal. It's only WG that's rare for 36mm watches, being only the DJ and DD AFAIK. Good luck

Here are some pictures of mine that make it look like rose gold in certain light. It is not however, it is yellow gold.
