What's the price range for a vintage SS Submariner?
I'm looking for the cheapest possible, but obviously vintage with the acrylic crystal.

Vintage Subs aren't cheap.. Why not look around for a nice GMT and put in a black insert...

They aren't too bad. You would get a nice 5513 with acrylic for £2,500 ($5,000).

Ty, as stated the 5513 is about the entry point for acryllic. If you're ok with gloss/WG surrounds (after about 1984-85) you can save a bit.

I'm pining for a plastic Sub right now because my plastic GMT is in for service. I know how you feel. A date function is important to me, so I'm looking at the last of the 1680 models. These are running $6K with gloss dials (which I am fine with). They're pretty rare though. The no date models are a little more affordable...prices get down to $4K, but that won't be for a mint one.
Prices go up very quickly into the five figures for anything older. These are red sub and James Bond pieces remember. I'm considering a Tudor. $3K gets you a really nice and relatively modern (mid-1990's) sub with date. A SS Rolex case, a date, and of course the plastic crystal. Movements are by ETA and my understanding are these are robust but unexotic. *at the risk of losing out in a bidding war with you....have you checked out the Vintage Rolex Forum?

Jasper the 1680 never had a gloss dial. I agree that a nice Tudor is a wonderful vintage piece. |

PM sent.
Stay out of trouble. Jim - love that 79090. I am cosnidering one over here. I'm pained to see that prices have virtually doubled in the last year. I'll be pained even more if I don't get one and prices go up further. eek!
