Would transparent case back affect the movement?
I would like to change the case back of my sub for the sapphire crystal clean back.
May I know if the transparent back would affect the movement maybe by the direct sun light that would make the movement dry faster or more easy for ageing the parts in the movement? |

Everything should be fine if fitted correctly. If you don't leave the watch face down in the window sun light won't ever hit the movement.

I can't answer that but you've got me thinking. I don't like see through backs either.
Put that in the same box as Roman Numerals, Gold Watches, Coloured Faces ( other than Black and White, See Through Watch Faces, and I can see I'm becoming very one dimensional when it comes to watches. |

This! I have a Thomas Priek caseback on my 116520, very happy with it. The shape / depth is exactly as the factory ss caseback and it is water proof to 1000 feet

Don't know about popularity but you might find this encouraging. |

Would make the watch look cheap. Not a very impressive movement compared to those of other manufacturers.

No but it would make the watch not waterproof. What good is a oyster case that is not waterproof.

Not true at least with the one from Thomas Priek; caseback is rated at 1000 feet, which is enough for the Daytona (and my lifestyle as well). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Personally I can't see the point of them.

I believe some Cellini models have had a clear caseback and is water resistant to 50m. I don't know if anyone would wear the leather strap in water, but at least the case sounds like it is water tight.

A Sub? Please do not do that. It will have adverse effect on the water resistance of the watch. Besides, it's a diver, it's a utilitarian tool watch, save the sapphire display case back for pieces of haute horology where they actually spend time decorating the movement.

I get enjoyment from looking at the intricacies of most movements and as no one can tell the difference when the watch is in the wrist this mod is mostly for the wearer. I say do it. I'll probably be ordering one for my GMT.
As I don't plan to shower or swim with the GMT even minimum waterproof'ness is ok. |
