Buying Sub - Keep/Sell BB?
Hey guys,
I currently own a Tudor Black Bay blue on bracelet that I purchased new last year, and I am looking to purchase a SubC Date soon. Wanted to get your opinions on this dilemma: 1. These would be similar watches - can they coexist in a collection? Would I even wear the Black Bay anymore? Part of me is leaning towards selling the BB and starting fresh with the Sub. Owning more than 2-3 watches isn't important to me. 2. On the other hand, I've also heard to never sell a watch. I'm guessing resale puts me around $2200 max. That money would certainly be nice to put toward the new purchase, but isn't absolutely necessary. So, it's take a 35% loss or fork over an extra $2k. 3. This is probably something only I can answer, right? Thanks guys. Pic for fun. |

I'm interested to hear the responses. This is a fresh question that I've yet to hear be asked! Personally, I could go either way with what you want to do! Either way enjoy whatever you end up doing!!

I would be on the fence with this is well.
I think it would coexist nicely in the collection as it is the blue and would have a nice contrast, if it were the black version I would definetly ditch it. If the money isn't an issue and you truly like the bbb I would keep it |

cant see from the pics as i am slightly drunk but if its the discontinued black model as opposed to the blue, i would hang on to it
actually i would keep it either way

If you don't need the money from the black bay (like you say), just buy the sub and hold onto it for a couple of months. Determine if the black bay is getting any wrist time during this period with the sub in the collection. If you still find yourself grabbing it to wear and enjoy every now and then - I would keep it. However if the subC dominates all wrist time and you feel like you will not wear the black bay then sell it. You have the luxury of being able to have both at the same time to decide.
Good luck. |

I have learned recently that while debating flipping/selling/trading a watch to find another, it's extremely helpful to own both simultaneously before making any permanent decisions.
If you can afford it would definitely keep both, at least for a few months and then decide. |

Fairly simple...if you will still wear the Tudor once you get the sun, then you should keep it. If not....easy choice is to sell

Simple, If you need to sell, then by all means sell the BB, if not keep it and buy the SubC.
Re-assess after you've had the SubC for a bit so you can determine how much you're actually wearing the BB...then decide if you want to sell it! |

I have flipped a lot of watches and always thought I would be a one watch guy. I currently own a BB black and a SD and I love having both, when I get bored of one I swap. I think the Bb can hang with the sub. I love my Tudor, it one watch I would never sell.

Personally I'd sell the BB if I were getting a SubC. That's based solely on the fact that I prefer the look of the Sub over the Tudor, my own personal taste.
Only you can answer if the Tudor will get any real wrist time once you have the Sub, or if it will remain interesting to you when you have all the features and feel of the SubC on your wrist.

Btw have you considered buying the LVC? I have both and the combo is brilliant IMO! That is, if you find the SubC in black too similar.

The Tudor Black Bay Blue and Submariner Ceramic Date are very different watches. For some persepctive, I can fully appreciate a Submariner and Submariner Date even in a two watch collection.
Own both of them and then decide from there.

I have considered it, but I'm after the LN. It would be a great combo, though. Here's my BBB and a friend's LV.

If you don't need to sell it then don't. What can it hurt to sit on it for awhile. If after awhile it isn't getting any wrist time or you get an itch for something else sell it then but don't sell it just for selling's sake. Why take the hit if it's not even for a trade up?

Gotcha! I didn't read careful and for some reason thought you had a BB Black! Yeah makes more sense to have at least one black bezel in the group. I still strongly recommend owning both at least for a trial period (3-6 months) and then make your decision.

It depends on how many watches you want in your collection. I'd sell unless you want 10+ pieces.

I kept both for a couple months before selling my BBB. I absolutely loved the Tudor blue, but just couldn't get the Sub off my wrist, so I sold the Tudor. Ultimately I didn't want to have two divers at the same time, and regardless of what many say, in my opinion they are very similar. Similar case design, round markers, similar chapter ring, similar diving bezel, the only thing that punctuated the difference was the fabric strap on the Tudor, giving it a more casual vibe. But IMO the Sub can pull off any situation. If I was you I'd get the Sub, then get a watch or movement you don't already have for more variety, like a GMT or chrono.

No need to rush. Keep and decide after a month.

I'd miss the Black Bay. Mine coexist with my Sub nicely.

One is a really good looking dive watch made by Rolex. The other is not. Keep the Tudor Black Bay!

Keep the BB, you might find it gets more wrist time than your Sub. Mine does.
