Is been a year since Basel 2015. Day-Date II vs. Day-Date 40

Now that time has passed and lots of our member have gotten their hands on the DD40, what's the consensus now?

My choice is still the Day-Date 2.

When they debuted the DD2, it was obvious that it was intended to be a larger Day-Date in every way possible. Big case and a very chunky fluted bezel. I have a decent size wrist so it looked just right on me compared to the DD36. It's hard for myself to wear the 36mm when your used to seeing 40mm sport watches on your wrist.

News came of the DD40 and I was excited to say the least. Then I put it on and was completely underwhelmed. With the smaller bezel, the watch looked exactly like the DD36 on my wrist. The diagonal motif dials are stunning IMO, but the rest of the watch just didn't do it for me.

Also the fact that this "new and improved" movement didn't even work correctly for day changes is a joke.

Now I can't get anymore DD2's at a reasonable price since they are all jacked up

Anyways, I'd love to hear everyone's opinions since time has passed.

DD 40 is just too big for me. If I had a larger wrist I may have voted differently but the DD 36 is just right.

I think they are both great, but proportions of the DD40 seem more balanced to me. But in the long, I think DDII will hold its value beacuse of its relatively short production cycle.

I don't own either but I've compared them side-by-side. I definitely prefer the size and proportions of the DD40 - but I'm biased because I have smaller wrists.

Rolex doesn't produce this dial for the DD40 so I give the slight nod to the DD2, being that it's also discontinued makes it VERY attractive to me. With that said I have no bias to the DD40 as you are aware. Love them all!

I liked my DD2 but the proportions on the DD40 are better. Date change over will hopefully be sorted out quickly too.

Never been a big fan from DDII, the new 40mm proportions are excellent.
(DD36mm would ben my choice BTW)

I am still shocked at the very small amount of dial options offered with the 40.. is still a quest for me to acquire the new 40 but only the silver Roman dial is singing to me...

But for me the DD40 of the II

DD 40 and DD36 all the way for me. I prefer the understated dress look.

I own neither but much prefer the look of the DD40 case. Now we just need some fun dial options.

I tried on a 40 and I still like the dd2 . But in pictures the 40 looks better but just not on my arm . The 40 is a copy of the 36 but in 40mm. To me the dd2 looks more like a different larger dd.

There are certain DDIIs I would take over a DD40 and vice versa. Really depends on the metal and dial.

I like the proportions of the 40 better, and the deconstructed Romans. There are a few dial combos on the DD2 that are amazing (such as Sam's blue wave above), but overall, my vote goes to the 40.

I think the 40 is perfectly proportioned as well and still retains Classic DD look. I think the DDII looks much sportier with bigger bezel. Both winners but do prefer the 40 myself. However there are certain versions of the DDII I absolutely love and Sam's above is one of them! So again I see winners in both references.

Also love the new olive green sunburst dials especially in WG!

I totally agree with the runaway vote. I don't think DDs should be oversized. I prefer the flute on the 40 being more reasonably sized. But I voted smooth, best of all

Believe or not, everyone I know in the real world (outside of TRF) chose the DD2 over DD40. I'm speaking about an age group between 25-35, so that could be it.

I loved my DD II, but I love my DD 40 even more. Both are great, but in the end, for me, the 40 just sits better on my wrist and the slimmer lines have grown on me. It's still a big watch at 40.

I actually love the DD2 n we bought two (2) of the exact same watch with the same dial (photo above).. Now the DD40 is certainly growing on my mrs and she wants a dd40 with the olive green dial. I guess among the 40 and 41, there is certainly rooms for both model.

HAGWE! .. James
