Deepsea doesn't photograph well...

I've noticed that most photos of the DSSD on the forum are not really representative of how the watch really looks in person. The proportions seem wrong, and honestly, I don't think the watch looks very appealing in most pics. In person, it's a different story. Does anyone else find this?

The reason I bring this up is...if you think you are interested, you really need to check it out in person. The other thing I feel is really important is to try it on with the bracelet properly sized (if at all possible). I kept trying it on, pulling the bracelet tight to my wrist. In doing so, it never really felt right. Then one day, I swing by an AD, and they have one in the case which had a couple of links removed. It felt so different. You can probably say this about any watch, but due to the substantial heft of this piece, trying it on with proper fitment sold me on it.

Just the ramblings of a DSSD owner. Carry on.

I agree ... people shoots it from up close and it looks out of proportion.

Still, this looks pretty good to me

Proper fitting is definitely important for this piece...especially when first trying it on to make a buying decision. I think photos are a little more difficult due to the domed crystal...takes the right light and angle.

This is true of every watch I've ever seen.

No photo can do justice to what a watch will look like when you inspect it personally.

I'm not sure that I can recall an instance when a watch didn't look better than in pictures, but pictures can hide unpleasant features of a watch.

The simple answer is that an image is never the real thing and to appreciate a thing, you need to actually see, hold and inspect the thing.

Interesting you say that about the DSSD because we see many straight on face shots here so you don't get a real impression of its thickness and top heaviness, and I think that can come as a bit of a shock if you are used to the usual 40mm Rolex so this is one you def need to try on. When I had mine, I had 44mm APs and Breitlings so it felt fine but then I went thru a small stage and thought it too big, but now I'm back to liking the larger size and presence of it again, esp as the DB.

This is definitely a watch you want to try on before you by it. Just be careful you may not want to take it off.

Most wrist shots of just about any watch could use a bit of compression from a short tele lens. The camera phone or wide angle shots make the watches appear more bulbous and large on the wrist.

Deepsea doesn't photograph well...

My DSSD was my first. Waited until October after Basel before I got mine. Wore it almost every day from 08-12 when I got a SubC. I'll say even with my 8" wrist the thickness now bothers me a lot. I don't wear mine at all any more. Now my SD 4K until I traded a few months ago but I am prob about to go back to a SD4k or maybe a BLRO or YG Blue SubC. Or maybe I'll go back to AP again. You are right thought you can't seen to get as good of pics of the DSSD as other models.

I agree.
Also, haven't seen a pic that does the dial on the D-Blue justice.

Photographing a Deep Sea

I agree, pics do not do it justice. Here is kind of a comparative pic on size vs a Sub C Date.

In order to take a photo that is representative of how the watch really looks in person, watch the distance that you take the photo from.

It especially matters if you tilt your wrist and expose the thickness of your watch.

Smartphone cameras tend to be relatively wide-angle, therefore require you to get too close to take a photo of " just " your watch in the scene. If you have to do that, try keeping the watch 2D; camera directly facing the dial. Otherwise you will have a larger perspective distortion.

I saw a D-blue at my AD a while ago for the first time and tried it on. Was impressed by the presence, shape and special dial! It don't do much on pictures but now that I saw and tried one on, I like the piece!

Same with the hulk. Very often it looks like a greenish thing on pics, but in real it's more like a gorgeous green jewel.
