COA for GMT 16710
Took my 16710 into a RSC this morning and they quoted me $750 for a COA. I just recently purchased this 16710 and I know it's fairly dry inside, needs a new bezel click spring/washer tension, and a general overhaul. The bezel has a really hard time turning clockwise and generally seems loose. Is this a good price? I'm sure with the extra parts it'll end up costing me close to a grand. I went to Tourneau across the street and they said $600 through their service and they'll guarantee a 2 year warranty afterwards, plus give me any of the original parts that were changed. I'm torn on the decision and need some insight.
Thanks for your time. |

Take a day trip to Dallas during the upcoming four day weekend. You should go on Friday as they will be off on Monday due to Labor Day. It's best to get service done through the RSC. Dallas happens to be the best RSC in the CONUS. Good luck.

Wasn't there a thread about someone's watch coming back with damage to it from RSC Dallas?

There are a truckload of threads about the dismal work and customer service done by Tourneau's shops.

I just replied to that thread. I'll say the same thing here and elaborate.
For every horror story from a factory service center there is a dozen from an ad and 100 from a non authorized repair center. With the number of people, steps, and the level of technology and systems management that happens at the Rolex service centers it's absolutely astonishing that anything would make it past them, but it does. If you take it to an independent, that watchmaker is the only one qc'ing that work and the likelihood of something sneaking past him or her is much higher. I don't mean to say this to disparage the independent watchmaker, it's just the reality of working solo. I wish I had a series of people looking over my work before it went to the customer. I think people should take their watches to reputable certified watchmakers with authorized parts accounts from the manufacturer, but it is hard to know who is going to be good and who is not without doing a good deal of homework. At the very least, make sure they are authorized by the manufacturer and they hold SAWTA and/or CW21 certificate. There are people who don't have either very that do good work, but the peice of paper is proof that they are capable. |
