Quickest Production Car in the World!
New Tesla Model S Now the Quickest Production Car in the World
https://www.tesla.com/blog/new-tesla..._medium=social The Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode is the third fastest accelerating production car ever produced, with a 0-60 mph time of 2.5* seconds. However, both the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder were limited run, million dollar vehicles and cannot be bought new. While those cars are small two seaters with very little luggage space, the pure electric, all-wheel drive Model S P100D has four doors, seats up to 5 adults plus 2 children and has exceptional cargo capacity. The 100 kWh battery also increases range substantially to an estimated 315 miles on the EPA cycle and 613 km on the NEDC cycle, making it the first to go beyond 300 miles and the longest range production electric vehicle by far. The larger battery pack is also available on the Model X, making the world’s quickest SUV even faster. Model X P100D with Ludicrous mode accelerates to 60 mph in 2.9* seconds and travels up to 289 miles EPA estimated and 542 km on the NEDC cycle on a single charge. Model X is also a pure electric SUV and can seat up to seven adults. Model S and Model X are engineered to be the safest cars on the road and to have the highest ratings from NHTSA. Both have access to the Tesla Supercharger network for the freedom to travel long distance for free. And every Tesla will improve over time with free over the air upgrades. Tesla customers who have ordered a P90D Ludicrous, but not taken delivery, can upgrade to the 100 kWh pack for $10,000. Existing P90D Ludicrous owners can also upgrade to a 100 kWh pack, but for $20,000, as their used 90 kWh pack will have to be recycled. While the P100D Ludicrous is obviously an expensive vehicle, we want to emphasize that every sale helps pay for the smaller and much more affordable Tesla Model 3 that is in development. Without customers willing to buy the expensive Model S and X, we would be unable to fund the smaller, more affordable Model 3 development.

I am still a fossil fuel kind of guy. Love the sound of internal combustion engine.
Love to try this one though. |

A friend of mine recently took me out in hers and it was unbelievably quick off the line.
Must say though, that the last paragraph in that press release would make me very nervous if I had a deposit down on the new "yet to be developed" Model 3.

Sounds like Elon Musk pandering to the buyer on the edge of social responsibility. He just can't afford to build the politically correct electric car for the masses if wealthy people don't buy his luxury electric cars.

But back on topic, it is the fastest car off the line I've ever been in. Except maybe a Top Fuel simulator, lol!

Interesting take. Inventors of new products and the manufacturers need to cover their development cost. Who better than the people with the money to buy them first and pay a premium for them. If that what it take to get it to the masses at a reasonable price I am all for it.

Tesla has made electric vehicles more appealing for me without a doubt. Nice looking car it is.

I would love to have one and may pull the trigger someday soon. I just love the whole idea of it not needing gas and being faster than anything I have ever driven.

I've been a 'petrol-head' all my life but I have never understood the obsession with fast 0-60 times. Who cares. Where do you use this? Why is it important?

The P90D does pretty good there though, but not close to fast petrol cars. Take the M5 E60, a 2005 car is faster.

Seriously though, 0-60 still means something to many because it is an indicator of how much legalized fun the car might provide. You can't speed without risking a ticket, but there is no law against getting to the speed limit as quickly as possible, short of laying rubber and pulling wheelies. The sensation of acceleration is an attraction for many. That's one thing about the Tesla, instant max torque from dead stop has you thrown hard into the back of the seat. That's fun, imho.

I'd put a new model 35 GTR up 0 - 100 and check Tesla's claims and on a trip it takes less time to fill up the GTR.

The recent benchmark of speed is the Nurburg Ring. 0-60 is antiquated - Subaru and Mitsubishi were doing 4 seconds ten years ago.
I've seen enough Tesla "drivers" texting while driving to make never want one of these vehicles. Auto pilot might as well be the metro. I would rather drive a 5hp Miata than a car that is trying to get rid of "driving". |

Anything faster is loss of license. Top speed or fastest around the Nuberg Ring means nothing. Production Subarus and Mitsubishis were not doing 4's 10 years ago. I had 5 of one and 2 of the other and spent a lot of $$'s just to get close to those times.

Look up the quarter mile times for the P90. They are in the mid 10 second range and the car hits over 120 mph. More than fast enough to beat every car that costs over $150k. I am not sure why I would need any more.
There are plenty of videos showing this cars speed. To me, it is very impressive.

Mid 10s with awd would typically trap over 130. No gas/air mix so not sure if DA matters. Plenty of cars sub $100k would beat this car. But still agree Tesla is impressive. |

These cars are crazy fast and have some really cool technology.
I have been "building" cars most of my life and spent a lot of time, $, and effort to modify say a 1969 Corvette or Camaro to do a 12 second quarter mile in street trim. It is hard to believe a car like this Tesla would smoke a 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454 or any other big block car from that era. And would keep up or beat most modern muscle/sports cars up to 75mph or so. That being said, I know I would miss the sound of the engine and exhaust regardless of the performance. I will drive one when the opportunity presents itself but doubt it will make the short list for my next car.

Amazing car but don't need all that speed in LA traffic. Would do fine with the lower end models.
