2016 Air-King

Yesterday, my AD called and told me that they had a new hard-bound Rolex catalog in that I could pick up at my convenience and, by the way, they had a new Air-King in that I could add to my collection, if I were so inclined.

I got there in less than an hour and while I still can't fully understand why Rolex issued this new Air-King in its configuration, even as an "homage to aviation," as they've stated, it definitely has its appeal that doesn't come across in pictures alone.

Besides that, the price is very attractive--incredibly attractive to be exact.

I wish I had a picture to post, but I guess I was a bit too overwhelmed to have full possession of my faculties.

Do it, do it. Great piece to add for the right price. I have heard it's much better in person than on photos.

Having tried one on, it definitely looks better in person vs photos. Still not really my cup of tea, but I can now see why some like it.

Having spent the last year or more indulging other pursuits and adding two Tudors and a Frederique Constant to my collection, my watch fund is exactly zilch.

Nonetheless, it's price is such that saving for one would not be a protracted process.

Is their any trade you can make that would allow you to get it faster? I agree that they are sweet watches. I'd like one myself.

Not a fan in pictures, but I haven't seen it yet. That could change, but I'd be surprised.

Contrary to what seems to be popular opinion, I really liked the new AK. Granted, I would have preferred all white numerals instead of the wg 3/6/9, but on the wrist it's really interesting, with the colored text and green second hand.

I agree. Pictures do not do justice, and even with the color mix, it has its own appeal.

I like it. It's different. Contemporary. No offense to the purists but the Submariner has more or less looked the same for 60 years. The new AK retains the traditional elements with a bit of new zip to it. I would 100% wear one.

I have one simple rule for my watches. They will not be sold or traded under any circumstances short of life and death.

At this point no watch is a critical acquisition.

If it is meant to be, it will happen in due time.

I like the new AirKing and can't wait to try it on and compare it to the Milgauss

Great entry level Rolex for those looking to buy from an AD. Although I still think that buying used is the way to go for any watch.

I bought one last week and am very pleased with it. The boutique had a deposit on it but the depositor backed out. I am beginning to think it may look somewhat better on a leather strap as opposed to the SS bracelet.

Given I have the 39mm Explorer, I have a watch with the white-gold 3, 6, 9. Interesting--I could see getting the new Explorer over the AirKing for that reason.

I'm still torn on the new AK. I prefer the new 2016 Explorer I but at the same time I can see the appeal in it... Have yet to see one in the flesh so I'll reserve judgement until then :)

I did not like the new AK based on pictures from the net. Saw my first one at an AD and I liked it. It looks like a cockpit gauge. The green second hand adds jauntiness! See one and try to resist! Resistance is futile!

I tried the 2016 AK and the 2016 Explorer both at the AD. I like the new Explorer better between the two, but I can see how some people are more attracted to the AK.

I like everything about this watch. Love the brushed bracelet, the size of the case, the font on the dial and the yellow, and green touches. It looks so vintage, yet so obviously modern and beautiful. It also looks good on a rubber bracelet. It will be my next watch as soon as I save up enough to buy one. Gorgeous and never something I thought I would like until I saw it in person.
