Ceramic Daytonas £7k to £9k over list?
hiya,,
please forgive my newbie ignorance but is that really the "norm",,,, That daytonas listed are under £9k RRP but are fetching the above amounts and more?,,,, watchmaster i think had one for over £16k earler today unworn,,,,,, is this the supply and demand business model like the hulks and blnrs?,, just seems a huge premium for owning one now and this is from one who gave £550 over list for a nearly new blnr [ 1 year old at the very end of Nov] why so huge amounts of cash to own the ceramic daytona now? thanks,,,,,j |

Supply and demand. People are buying at those prices so it will continue, unfortunately.

I'm too lazy sto do the conversion of pounds to dollars but the point still stands. They are ending in love auctions on eBay for just 15%-17% over list price. When you consider tax new, then the percentage is even smaller.
The novelty has worn off. To be fair though, only seen black dials with actual open bidding auctions. The white dials all seem to be listed at $17k-$22k "buy it now" with no takers for weeks. So take it for what it's worth. |

Yes. Just like people buy low production cars new at msrp and sell them at a profit over msrp.
And I understand one is a truly limited production and one is a watch they will make tens of thousands of. But when there are none available and people with large amounts of disposable income want them the prices go up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Madness. I'll wait until a lightly used one trickles down onto the market thank you very much whoever pays that.

Because those who have one to sell can ask anything they want for it. Does not mean that they will get it.

You can buy no less than two tone Daytona for that price. It's too steep but around 15K would be a good deal for both sides, seller and buyer. Seller would have profit a hefty one while other side would pay too much but would have bought it without waiting 2 years or more

Funny how everyone says they'll wait to buy at MSRP as doing so normally gets you trolled and brings out the boo birds telling you to pick one of the thousands of reputable sellers here =P Maybe the seller shill army doesn't work graveyard.

I have been told that this watch sells for around S$26,000 at ADs in Singapore, which is roughly US$19,000.
If I'm not mistaken, this is 55% above the full retail price. ADs here are not allowed to overcharge like this, but they do it anyway because they can get away with it. The sales receipt issued will show the amount paid but it won't state the model or serial number - the item sold will be described only as "A Rolex watch''. This way the buyer has no proof that he or she paid a hefty premium for a steel Daytona and hence cannot subsequently lodge a complaint with anyone. It sucks but that's the way it is. |

With that premium, you might as well get a RG Ceramic Daytona on leather strap. It's a 'better' Daytona IMHO

Prices have already been coming down by the the week/month.
If you see completed listings on Ebay & Trusted sellers here on the for sale section, it still commands a premium but not close to May, June prices. I would say avg was 20k usd, avg now seems to be 17k, once there is no profit or very minimal 1-2k profit. from novice flippers as to many headaches involved for a 1k profit to a non professional, I think retail will come really quick. I say within 6 months to a year. Also have to factor in Gold Daytona versions will most likely get ceramic at Basel this year. Which will not help. My 2 cents is free. fwiw |

Agree In part with the premium they are demanding dropping but this ceramic update won't happen anytime soon as they updated the TT and YG Daytona's this year along with the SS.

I haven't seen many people recommending buying at inflated prices on the 116500. However, it is easy to recommend a first time buyer with no AD relationships to buy here as they can often save thousands on virtually any other rolex outside the d blue.

I am just not the kind who would pay above MSRP for a Rolex. It's a mass produced Rolex.
