PCL's - If you're OCD, might not be the route to go.
Well, it's been one week to the day that I purchased both a TT Submariner along with a DateJust for my wife. My watch, the oyster bracelet. Hers, the jubilee. By comparison, hers looks amazing. Mine, meh. Don't get me wrong, it's still beautiful/gorgeous, etc. etc.
But those PCL's pick up more scratches than a flea bitten dog on a lazy summer's day. I mean one could sneeze on this bracelet and it'll show a micro scratch marking. lol. I know I know, no big thing as they can all be polished to brand new upon servicing. Regardless, if you're one who is crazy OCD about scratches, might want to rethink PCL's. I know I was looking at getting a GMT Master II this week but the PCL's on that one are making me rethink the whole deal. Anyone else see this or am I just spending far too much time looking at the bracelet and then going, "What the hell!? How'd it pick up a scratch just resting on the nightstand!????: Oh, and no worries here. I'm totally wearing it like nobody's business. I buy them to wear them. No 'safe queens' here. |

I'm OCD(not clinical) but I don't mind the scratches on the center links of my 116613LB. Obviously, I'd rather have no scratches but it is what it is Still beautiful

I give mines a wipe down with a polishing cloth after every use. It won't stop those little scratches, but it soothes my OCD...LOL!

It's only been a week. This will pass and you won't notice every little thing and the watch will look great, trust me I know!

Am Okay with scratches but what's buzzing me is the shine, therefore I've brushed the bracelets of my GMTiic, my ss daytona, and most likely would wear my tt daytona on leather or rubber.
It does work so far. You can restore pcl easily if required, if you change your mind or wanna sell the watch. It works well on ss , but on a tt the easiest is to use a strap imho Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk |

I would like to state that I actually had OCD when I was a child and still have some tendencies. I have learnt to release any PCL frustration that I might have had at the beginning of my watch collecting career. The micro scratches all mesh together and look like a beautiful art work that was created from your daily life. Or atleast that's how I view it. Perhaps this helps a bit. Here is a picture of a 116719 blro that I sold. It was only a few weeks old.

have to agree,,the pcls do seem to mark very easily,,,,
my milgauss gv clasp was a mish mash of little scratches,, refuse to use my loupe anymore,,,, my blnr came with a tiny mark and a good story how it go there,,, so all adds to the character me thinks,, |

Yeah, I've quickly learned NOT to use my jewelry loupe on the thing. Goodness gracious, does EVERYTHING show up loud and clear.

I am OCD about my hobbies and this bothered me once upon a time. These days I focus more on the dial/bezel of the watches. As long as they stay good and pristine (to some decent level).....the bracelet I am less worried about (though I'm still fairly careful). You are absolutely correct though....you look @ PCL the wrong way and it will scratch. So just look @ it under different lights till the truth hits you (and yes OCD people need constant reminder of this...I know).....no one but you sees those types of scratches on PCL....they just think it looks sweet/albeit a tad flashy heh. Enjoy it.

You can also touch up the gold PCL with Simichrome metal polish. Good stuff. If you ever go with a full gold Sub, there will no doubt be more scratches than on the PCL's. Its the nature of 18K |

I LOVE the look of PCL's. The scratches are just part of the cost to having PCL's. With a bit of wrist presence and a bit of tolerance it can work out for anyone, even with a little OCD.
Also, I'm not entirely sure that a brushed bracelet is any safer. Tiny scratches are bound to happen if you wear a watch daily. It's just the nature of the beast!

This too shall pass ...
Just be cautious of you're surroundings when wearing the watch . I set my Blue Sub on a soft decorative night stand cover at night so I understand how you feel . I try to Keep it as clean as possible so it looks beautiful . Once every few days I wash it with warn water and mild dish soap and dry it always with a CLEAN lint and dirt free cloth . Micro-fibre or cotton . |

The first few scratches always bother me whether its PCL's or BCL's, but after a few weeks and the first few scuffs it gets easier to deal with. Most of the time its nothing that cannot be sorted when service time comes around.

I've had my TT Sub for thirty years. The PCLs look great in my opinion.

Yeah, I've got the same problem. I just try to think "patina" and move on, because I love the watch so much. I plan to get a Daytona, you know, one of these days, so I guess it's just practice for that.

I noticed the same on my GMT over time. Just have to think past those tiny scratches and enjoy the watch
