Trade in or Sell private

My Deepsea been w/ me for 4+ years, very satisfied, no complaint!
I just got a Panerai 005, so now I have two bigger watches in terms of size, weight and thickness. Now I am thinking to move my deepsea and getting the SD4000 or Hulk or maybe the 16610LV. If I were to get my watch, I will either get it in Hong Kong when I go back next year or through DavidSW. My question is should I just trade my watch to David or to other sellers that you can recommend? Anyone has experience can share? I know I can sell higher through private but I am not a pledge member, so it can be challenging. Also which one is your favourite out of the three watches i am looking at? I know I should try on at AD first but any suggestion is welcome

sell the 005, and get the Hulk.

Obviously selling it yourself you have the potential to make more, but as you said you are not a pledge member and most likely don't have many /if any for sale references so it may be very hard to sell the watch or may take a very long time once you do become one. On the other hand you can easily trade it to David but may not get what "you" think it's worth. In my personal opinion I would rather just trade it and be done with it.

Of those 3, I like the 16610lv but I tend to prefer 4 and 5 digits.
Once you add in insured shipping and the time and hassle of selling privately, you only gain a few hundred IMO. Obviously depending on the value of the watch.
David has always treated me fairly on trades.
Generally I go the trade route but have sold a few privately as well.

I really like my 005 and plans on keeping it for a while, i know it is getting less love than before, but I like to have different variety, so maybe 1 Rolex and 1 Panerai instead of 2 Rolex

Everyone's time, effort and risks involved are worth something. So although you stand to make more money privately, you will have to work on selling it and take on the risk of dealing with a nightmare buyer or even full blown scammer.

If you work with a guy like DavidSW you won't make as much money but David does the work for you and makes your life just about as easy as can be.

That said, I've found David's trade values to be extremely competitive and his services to be amazing. I'd also reach it to Thanh Do (Takuya) as I feel he's also a pleasure to work with and has given me the best prices on both buying and selling in recent months.

Unless I have the ability to do a face to face I find the trade much easier and safer way to rid myself of a watch. I personally think you can't get a fairer shake than with david.

Normally getting people will get better price when trade the watch to same dealer. As the dealers can make more profit by selling 2 watches.

When I sold my V-serial DSSD privately, I sold it for approximately $500 more than I was offered in trade. Is it worth the hassle for $500? It was for me.

what would you guys think my 2009 DS V series will worth? Able to straight trade for a Hulk, SD4000 or 16610LV?

If you have time to sell, you ought to get +|- $9000-ish (basing that on USD)

But that will depend on condition and local demand.

I would say this depends on your patience and opportunity cost. I have always traded and even sold a watch to DavidSW which went etremely well. I personally do not find it's worth my time to spend months' or longer showing up with strangers for 1-2k.

I would trade with Takuya and go for the Hulk. I did a trade with him and he gave me a great deal and walked me through it, being it was my first trade. I got a Hulk and PAM 372. Good luck.

I also have had good experience trading/selling with the trusted sellers here. I have done one or two local face to face sales of watches that went smoothly also, but had those buyers not panned out as soon as they did, I would have saved my time and efforts and traded here with one of the well known sellers. Personally, it's not worth my time to deal with all the low ballers, scammers and weirdos who just don't even show up to meet for the deal.

As for your next one, if I were in your shoes I'd keep the DSSD, sell the other and add the SD4k. I much prefer it's look and versatility over the Hulk and 16610LV. If that's not an option, you should be able to trade your DSSD for a SD4k without issue.

Haven't had interest in selling directly because of the hassles listed above.

I did a trade with David and it couldn't have been easier. I emailed him, he replied with a ballpark figure, I sent him detailed pictures, and then we arranged for a face to face transaction. His trade-in values are pretty competitive.

Have you looked at pre-owned prices? DSW has an excellent condition V-serial for sale right now for $8,075
