Safe to do X with my Rolex...

I see a lot of threads asking if it is safe to travel with, dive with, go to the beach with, visit this city, etc. with a Rolex. Makes me wonder, how many people have their watch(es) insured?

For the record, I do.

You bet I do!

All covered by the house contents insurance but the PM one has to be specified with a certified valuation certificate and kept in a safe if not being worn.

Cover includes, loss, theft or damage outside the home and whilst abroad.

Watches are to be worn and enjoyed. Due to that you never know what can happen when wearing so yeah I wear mine daily & have them specified separately on my home insurance to cover the same as above ;)

I have mine covered by Jewelers Mutual including my Wife's wedding ring.

We are currently renting a home while we decide to build or buy next.

Do I need to have My Rolex covered under my renters insurance policy as well??

No. I had a YM that I didn't even think about not being on my wrist 24 hours s day and where or what it can do. It's dived to 50m, summitted at 19000 feet, micro lighted Victoria falls, gone to gym, endured my lousy golf, snow, rain, hail and never ever worried about it...it survived...bugger I forgot it was stolen off my wrist during a home invasion in Tanzania in 2004!

Typically something as expensive as a Rolex is covered under a policy (inland Marine or Valuables) that is attached to an underlying homeowners or renters policy. As I understand it, Jewelers Mutual is a stand alone. Meaning you buy that independent of homeowners/renters.

My policy includes my camera gear, wife's rings, my Rolex for about $200/year.

I travel with it, however there are probably certain places I would not take it due to safety concerns more than fear of loss.

Great Thanks.

I prefer the Safety Net of Jewelers Mutual Stand alone for the Watch and the ring.

We have a pretty hefty coverage policy on renters insurance as well.. so I feel pretty confident we are more than good on coverage, but never really looked at it like oh now I own a rolex better update my insurer for my renters policy...

To the original question... I babied my watch the first couple weeks, however there is not much I don't do with it on with the exception of a few things I just find It unnecessary to be wearing a watch while doing.

Enjoy in Great Health... watches were meant to be worn

For $13 a month, I don't see why I wouldn't insure it.

It's been a long time since I've done X.....probably college about 15 years ago.....but a lot of people would suggest that it's not safe to do any illegal drugs. I have no idea what wearing a Rolex has to do with whether or not it's safe to do X.

i do absolutely everything with my watch, from going out formal to working on my car, traveling, working around the house, and it will help me with my new office in a few weeks.

about the insurance,i don't even believe there are watch insurance options where i live, and if there are,it's for big, expensive collections, and covered under some kind of house insurance,so i wear it all the time,if it gets stolen (no wonder how it still didn't) i can't do nothing but buy another one,and if it breaks,i'll send it to rsc.

I listed my watches on the Household Contents insurance policy some years ago.
This involved a comprehensive description of each - Serial, Model, Name - i.e. "DJ", and a nominated value (A$10K in each case).
The insurance agent I spoke with had obviously never done this before as they were clearly intrigued that anyone would have three watches with a nominated replacement value of $10K each.
There was a nominal premium increase but from memory only about $30.

I keep mine on a rider on my home policy, coverage and price are very comparable to JM, but my homeowners didn't require an appraisal on prices purchased in the last 3 years.

Jewelers Mutual for me. I do have a Invicta I wear when working on the car or lawn/gardening work.

Was on the phone at the AD with my insurance company. Had the store email an appraisal to state farm and walked out the door insured. Took me 10 years to work up to my first Rolex, want to enjoy it worry free...

I insured my 14060M. It's not up to par with some of the watches on here in terms of value but I asked myself:

"How would I feel about having to replace it if I lost it? Could I just shell out the cash right then and there and buy another?"

My answer was NO. So the $75 a year means nothing for me.

Yep, I'm pretty much in the same boat. Sure, I could probably scrape up the money by lightening the savings a bit but I'm in a different place with different responsibilities now than I was 16 years ago when I bought my sub... so I wouldn't.

So... yes, my sub is insured..

Bingo. I'm insured for our valuable items, but fear of loss isn't my real fear.
If I'm going off the reservation in a country where that little strip of steel costs more than most people make in a year, it's Gshock time. And not the fancy gshocks either. Lol.

I insure three of my watches with JM. It's a nice feeling knowing you're covered worldwide for anything...

After an attempted robbery, while in the company of my 10 year old two years ago, I am fully insured and always vigilant of my surroundings.
