14060M Sub or 2016 214270 Explorer?
Hi guys, thought I'd seek out some wisdom from the guys at TRF for my first post. Some background: I have a GMT 2 BLNR as my first Rolex for the past 3 years or so, and while I love it, I find that the PCL and large proportions gives it large wrist presence and I'm not always comfortable wearing it 24/7.
As such, I'm looking for a more understated Rolex as a daily wearer while keeping the BLNR for the weekend or fancier occasions. I also love experimenting with straps (NATO, leather, etc.) and so I need a versatile watch that is reliable in all situations, while keeping the BLNR on the bracelet as it just looks best on it. I've narrowed down my choices to a used 14060M No Date Sub or the new 2016 214270 Explorer. The sub first caught my eye and I'm unfazed by the complaints of the old bracelet as I will be keeping it on straps most of the time. However, I'm a little worried that it might be too similar to the GMT and hence I was thinking of going for something a little different. That's when I saw the new explorer. Can someone help me out here? |

In your position, and if you are certain it will be on a strap all the time, I'd go 14060. I am a big fan of the Sub look, always have been. I do not see any real similarity between your BLNR and a 14060, in terms of looks.
That being said, if you were asking for opinions between these two and we're going to wear it exclusively on the SS bracelet, I'd tell you 214270 all day.....it's more comfortable and far easier to get a better fit with it on the bracelet than the 14060, at least for me. The 14060 was either always barely too tight or slightly too loose on me.

Definitely 2016 Explorer. You already have a sporty bezel and round hour marker watch in the BLNR; a 14060 would be more of the same in that regard.
The EXP would add more variety. |

New Exp. The Sub is great but the 214270 will give you a much different look which it sounds like that's what you're aiming for.
I will say that I think the Sub looks better than the Exp on a strap though. |

I would go with the Sub since natos would look better on it.

16570 might be a good call. White dial to mix it up. Very understated and you still get a date function for daily wear and a GMT function.

Sub for me but if your wanting something that flies more under the radar and is of smaller proportions, then the explorer would be an excellent choice. Cant go wrong with either.

Difficult choice as both are fine watches. I would vote for the Explorer. It has more of a unique vibe than the Sub. Looks great with a strap as well. Good luck.

If you're looking for an understated Rolex, then you definitely want the Explorer I. Pre-ceramic subs are fantastic, don't get me wrong, but nothing beats the Exp1 when it comes to flying under the radar.

Since you are in Singapore, I suggest going rubber or NATO.
Given both 14060M and 214270 are dateless, I'll go new Explorer because of the new 369 blue lume, and also 214270 offers more versatility with straps. Bond NATO and any colour rubber strap ( RubberB or Everst) changes the look completely, giving you a few new watches from one.

I'm wearing a Sub 14060m right now on bracelet that I just installed yesterday after refurb. I've tried every possible configuration of adjustments to make it fit right and have had to settle on a compromise that is slightly too loose. Love the watch and it looks great on NATO but the bracelet is making me crazy at the moment. Currently I'm in the mood to say Explorer.

I have the Explorer and a Submariner-C and for sure the Explorer sits better on the wrist for the reason it has a slightly curved back.
Sitting better on the wrist means it's more comfortable to wear and certainly better for wearing in the hills. It's pretty good looking also on tuxedo occasions! |

Serious Question.. I am considering buying the Explorer 1 or the GMT II 116710LN for my Father as a Gift and curious about your reasoning for that one over the 2016 Thank you in advance |

If you prefer the 2016 version of the 214270, then there's your answer. But if you're slightly on the fence... If you get a chance to try a WG 3 6 9 then I suggest you do that. Or, consider this; you can get a WG for under 5k off a trusted dealer on this very site. You'll pay more for a 2016. But the Bigger reason... People on this forum will have you believe the WG 214270 was a mistake. Don't believe it. It's a brilliant watch. It's simplicity in design is second to none. If everyone wants the 2016, I say bet the other way. Get the white gold 3 6 9 and you'll never look back. |

The bracelet on the 14060 is not so bad as to having to remove it for a nato. It's still a great bracelet. But since you want to wear a nato, I would totally suggest the sub for a nato strap, it looks awesom on a nato. The explorer......not so much.

better yet, sell the blnr and get a gmt2 pepsi while they're still under $10k. go full 5d references if you like playing around with bands and nato's etc... |

Sell GMT 2 BLNR, and get the sub and explorer (maybe even the 36mm). The explorers work better on the smaller wrists.

I don't wear it daily as I think it's slightly too flashy at the moment for what I do on the weekdays. I know the explorer would be great, and the sub could work as well as its iconic bezel and dial has been replicated by so many other brands at this point. I like clean designs so it's either the 2 liner 14060M or the new explorer. |

Both are good. I'm biased towards the Sub.
