$2K AD Discount on New Submariner

Bought my first Rolex last week and the AD went out his way to accomodate the sale. By selling me the watch minus its SS bracelet, I was able to save close to $2,000 off retail. He included a couple of NATO watchstraps and the transaction still carries the full 5-year factory warranty. He mentioned that he could easily sell the stock SS bracelet as a factory replacement later down the road. Since I ordinarily don't wear watch bracelets, this arrangement worked out very well. He also threw in a 2 for 1 dining discount book and 2 lift tickets for the upcoming ski season. No complaints. Interesting forum. Lots of good information.

Try and buy the bracelet back off him. It is an essential part of the watch. You may regret the decision later.

Without the glidelock bracelet, that sub is as good as (or even inferior) yachtmaster or GMT.

Afraid you did not get any discount from your Rolex AD what you have now is a watch that will be very difficult to sell if needed. Plus many questions asked when you want to have any service done.Afraid what you have done is like buying a new car but to save money without its engine.

The bracelet is a very crucial element for a Submariner imo.

That's a bit extreme. Surely the equivalent of a car engine is the watch's movement. He might have bought the car without the doors, which is fine if you are going to hang onto the car for life and enjoy an open air driving experience.

Welcome and congrats on your new Sub! If that's the way you want your sub, then you got a good deal. Nothing wrong with that!

Not really a discount as a substantial portion of the watch is missing.

If this is what the OP wants then good on him.

I did not know an AD could sell the watch piece meal like this

I suppose they own it and can chose to do what they want.

yea to each their own, if you know you're never going to wear the bracelet, and plan on keeping the watch, I guess it can be a win-win for you.

Congrats on the Sub! Sounds like you're happy and that's what matters. I agree that there was really no discount as the bracelet sells for over 2k by itself.

As others have mentioned you didn't really get a discount sorry to say. The bracelet msrp is close to 2k I believe, and unfortunately Any difference in your favor is easily lost in difficulty to sell a watch minus one of its best features.

That said if you're happy that's great. Congrats. If you like rubber straps definitely check out Everest Straps. They make some super quality stuff that looks great, especially on your standard SubC

Good luck with that! AD is gonna sting you when/if you try and buy the bracelet!
What seems like a good deal,is gonna bite you in the butt!(that's if you give a monkey about the bracelet!)

Congrats on your new watch!
I would want the bracelet even just for resale purposes, but each to their own

You can do what you want and it appears you have. I would have purchased the watch with the bracelet. Took it off if it did not suit me and used other straps. When I wanted to use it I would put it on. Get ready if you ever try to sell it minus the bracelet. I would go back to the seller and get it back.

I highly recommend getting the bracelet in your possession so you will have it when you sell.

Congrats!

You do know that you did not receive a discount, right?

You bought 2K less product.

Not a discount, but a decent deal if you don't want the bracelet. You can always buy a bracelet with the money you saved at a later time (assuming the money you saved is the equivalent of the cost of a new bracelet), and of course if you never sell and never want it on the bracelet, then you have genuinely saved yourself a load of cash that would otherwise be sat in a drawer.

Congrats.

P.S. I have never really worn watches on bracelets, until I tried a modern Rolex, their bracelets really are superb. So don't rule it out.

Cool! Bracelets aren't for everyone and I love a diver on a NATO! If you know you're going to keep the watch and you don't like bracelets then I think you did well...$2k is a big savings! I might have done the same myself as I too don't love bracelets typically.

What shocks me, is that an AD would actually conduct that transaction... I know mine sure would not sell (what equates to) part of a Rolex.

Have to agree on that one and I would think it was against Rolex policy especially in the USA.
