Importing a Rolex a [US Customs] risk in 2016?
I'm looking to buy my first Rolex from a well-reviewed seller outside of the USA, and I feel like I'm getting some mixed messages on whether or not importing a Rolex from abroad is a risky endeavor or not.
One thread referenced this page as justification that the US Customs seizure risks were lifted due to the 'NO' in the 'Gray Market Importations Restricted' field: http://iprs.cbp.gov/index.asp?action...g=rolex&page=1 Can anyone fill me in on whether buying abroad is still risky (in the context of customs)? Does the choice of carrier make a difference? (For example, I've had to pay import duties on used camera equipment from abroad if they ship anyone other than EMS/postal, who never charges me.) I'd love to hear from anyone with first-hand experiences. Also, assuming it sails through ok and the full value is listed by the seller, what sort of import tax should I be prepared to pay? Does it vary by carrier, as with my experience listed above? Thanks. |

You can import Rolex watches into the US, no problem. There is a thread that gives the step by step instructions (do a search in the Rolex discussion forum).
The import duty is based on the watch materials, size, and country of origin. Typically 2-4%. EDIT: Here's a thread - http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...ight=importing And here's a duty calculator - http://www.dutycalculator.com/popula...xes-for-watch/ |

Hope this helps. I'd still search around on here for confirmation and clarification. Good luck!

I got caught on an ems/postal package with a used explorer in it - don't remember the exact amount but it was around $200 to get the package - custom charges can make a good deal just a marginal deal.

Sorry to hear it. The seller wants to use FedEx, which I feel like pretty much guarantees that I'll be paying a use tax (if buying used camera gear abroad is any indication), but even so I'll still be happy with the total investment.
