Help Needed

Hi All

Recently I have become absolutely enchanted/obsessed with two small details that Rolex offer; the lazer etching of the coronet on the crystal and the engraving of "ROLEX" around the face inside the case.

Given my next purchase is likely to be a pre-owned Sub, can anyone tell me when these details were introduced to Subs and which serial numbers I should look out for.

Thanks in advance.

Coronet on the crystal has been around for quite some time. For the ROLEX on the rehaut (flange) I would say "Z" serial and up, I think. Definitely "M". Just look around the Classifieds at all the Subs for sale and you should be able to zero in on the era you want.

The laser etched coronet started popping up in 2001/2002. The rehaut started mid/late Z serials.

Thanks both for your quick responses.

Forgive my ignorance but what sort of year should I be looking at for a mid/late z serial?

That really doesn't matter because they really won't be advertised like that. (Not like a car, for instance). The year/serial number references are purely guesses by forum members. Look for an M serial and it'll definitely have the engraved flange.

That being said, I think Z started in the 2006 ish range, IIRC.
