DJ II from white to Brand New Blue

So ever since a thread last week talking about changing dials on the DJ II I wanted to change my white dial 116334 to blue. I called Rolex in NYC about this and they said they will only do it with a service. After calling Rolex I decided to see a friend of mine who has a watch store in NYC. My friend had a blue dial that he would have done for me for $200, and I was going to do that. I also explained to him the watch felt a little rough when winding and may need a cleaning. Then I meantioned I may as well polish it while they are working on it. After, explaining all I wanted done he mentioned a great option. He showed me a brand new, fully stickers box and papers 116300 smooth bezel blue dial and went on to say, he would give me the brand new one put the fluted gold bezel that I had on my 116334 and let me keep the smooth bezel as well for $1000 on top of my watch. Keeping in mind I purchased my 116334 without box and papers this seemed like a great idea to a) get a brand new watch and have the fun of removing stickers b) have a watch with a brand new warranty card c) not have to worry about dial change, cleaning (or possibly servicing the movement) and a polish. When I asked what are you going to do with my watch with no bezel on it, he said I'll put a diamond bezel on it and sell it in 5 minutes! Glad I did the deal!

Congrats!

Say, how easy/quick was it to change the bezel? I'm thinking of buying a fluted one for an eventual swap on my DJ II, but I may want to swap back -- and forth. If it's a really simple procedure I may just do it.

It is very simple, took the guy one minute. You do need the proper pressure tool to replace the new bezel, you don't just do it by hand. Also, you must be careful not to lose the very thin rubber gasket.

Thanks, that's good to know. I assumed I'd have to have a jeweler do the switch, but maybe that tool isn't too expensive, hmmm.

It gives a dramatically different look, that's for sure.

Can you send me info on your friends shop? Looking to do bezel swap and can't find anyone on Long Island.

I actually thought you cannot put the fluted bezel on a 116300.

I have it in blue as well and have been tempted to replace the bezel AND somehow keep the smooth bezel in case I wish to put it back, only I thought it was not possible.

Thank you for this, now to properly source that WG fluted bezel

The only reason my guy had one was because he took it iff of the watch I traded in. The white gold bezel was mine, now I have both bezels (smooth and fluted) he was going to put a diamond dial on the watch he has now. I guess if I ever get tired of this bezel it won't be hard to sell! Lol

The two watches are identical, no reason you can't switch.
