RG YM vs, Plat Daytona

I have been going back and forth on choosing between either of these. Leaning towards the RG, just worried that it may get old quickly. AD is suggesting the Plat, as it is a "limited" production. Thoughts appreciated.

AD suggested platinum cause of margin me thinks

Actually - if you can swing 116506 I'd pick that in a heartbeat. I have heard the rg YM on rubber is an allocated piece for what it's worth. I've never heard a AD suggest that for platona. That one would arrive ASAP I would think

When facing a difficult decision, I usually go with the more expensive piece. That way, you can flip it for the other one with no additional loss of funds if you feel like you've made a mistake.

Tom, your pictures of the Platona are the most enabling of any I've ever seen!

Too many variables. What else do you have in your collection? What is your personal style preference? Does RG look good on you? (I LOVE the RG YM, but it looked terrible against my skin tone). Have you tried both on?

I have tried both models on. I am leaning RG but, my daughter says the Plat is the one to get. My concern with the YM is that I may get tired of it or love it, no middle ground.

I currently have the following;
SS sub '16
TT sub '01
YG sub '16
SP YM '06
Daydate 80's
Datejust 90's

and a few PP.

I am fortunate enough to have both. They are completely different. The RG YM is definitely more comfortable for everyday wear and is more legible than the Platona. That being said, the Platona is the peak of any Rolex collection, IMHO. As others have said, try them both on and get the one that sings the loudest.

When did you get the Platona? I missed the incoming thread.

Last February. One bad mofo! I agree with Ken, though. The RG YM comfort is unmatched.

I'd get the RG YM and a ceramic SS Daytona.

Agree with the guys, if you've got the cash go for the Platona.

Seeing your current collection, my word is the 116506 platona for sure.

The 116655 YM RG is very comfortable with the oysterflex, but the novelty wears fast making it more suited to be worn in rotation.

Whereas the platona can be the one and only watch, forever.

Plat Daytona for sure. I believe it's a better bang for your buck. RG YM is over priced. Very nice watch but not in the price range.

Wait a minute, doesn't the Pt Daytona have a $60k+ premium over its SS brother? I know watch prices don't revolve around PM prices, but there's only like $8-9k worth of Pt there. How does that equate to a better bang for your buck?

I'm not a RG guy, but I love the RG YM... If I could pull off the color, I'd choose that one and spend the savings on another piece.

I would do RG YM for comfort and style as well.
Save the money and get a couple more watches.
Comfort has been winning for me lately over full PM bracelets.
Don't get me wrong, I have tried on the platona and love it,
just don't like the weight on my small wrist.

Pick up the YM RG and then add a 116500 and pocket the change

If you have the ability to do so, I would pick this one. It is definitely on my wish list. And no, not mine, thanks Tom for letting me try this one on for a few minutes :)
